LASER APPARATUS FOR CALCULATING EFFECTIVE DRIVING TIME
Even when a light source is driven under various conditions, an effective driving time is accurately calculated. A laser apparatus includes a light source, a power source which charges driving current to the light source, a control unit for controlling the power source, a first recording unit which calculates a life load rate of the light source and records the same in association with time, and a calculation unit which calculates, as an effective driving time, a time integration of the life load rate between a first time point, at which the laser apparatus is actually driven, and a second time point after the first time point, based on a recording result of the first recording unit.

APPARATUS FOR GENERATING A COHERENT BEAM ILLUMINATION
An apparatus generates a coherent illumination beam. An embedded light-scattering apparatus in a transparent substrate illuminates a reflective optical element which is also embedded inside the same substrate. The reflective optical element is designed to provide a desired beam profile.
Image display device
To prevent effectively the flickering of an image due to the switching of a polarization direction while reducing speckle noise. A polarization switching unit is provided in an optical path of laser light to a projection surface A and periodically switches a polarization direction of the laser light emitted therefrom between p and S polarization. A laser control unit controls laser light sources in synchronization with the switching by the polarization switching unit and determines a driving current corresponding to a grayscale to be displayed on the basis of driving current characteristics for P polarization when the polarization direction of the laser light is the P polarization. In addition, the laser control unit determines the driving current corresponding to the grayscale to be displayed on the basis of the driving current characteristics for P polarization when the polarization direction of the laser light is the S polarization.
