In an electronic color display including an active matrix of pixels and an electro-optic medium, the method comprises receiving an input image, processing the input image to create color separation cumulate, and using a threshold array to process the color separation cumulate to generate output colors for the electronic color display. In many instances the color gamut of the input image and the color gamut of the electronic color display are different.

A display device is provided that includes a plurality of pixels, a plurality of optical sensors, an emission line connected to the pixels, and an emission driver connected to the emission line. The emission driver outputs a first emission signal to the emission line having a first frame frequency in a first mode for displaying an image using the pixels and outputs a second emission signal to the emission line having a second frame frequency in a second mode for sensing light using the optical sensors. The second frame frequency is different from the first frame frequency.

A method for applying adapted colour rendering in relation to intensity of light of wavelengths relevant to the circadian rhythm of a user, a computer program, a carrier, a system and a head-mounted device is disclosed. The method comprises receiving gaze tracking information identifying a gaze vector of the user of the system, and determining a respective location of a first area of the display and a second areas of the display based on the identified gaze vector. A first colour rendering mode is applied in the first area of the display, and a second colour rendering mode is applied in the second area of the display. The first colour rendering mode and the second colour rendering mode differ in relation to a degree of selective adaptation of intensity of light of wavelengths relevant to the circadian rhythm of the user.
