The embodiment provides a technique of measuring a forward voltage reaching time of a currently driven LED by comparing a forward voltage sensed in a previous scan line and an LED voltage sensed in a current scan line, and compensating an ON period of a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal by the measured forward voltage reaching time.

It further discloses a display driver integrated circuit capable of providing the signals required for the disclosed addressing method and display systems capable of being addressed by the disclosed method and display driver integrated circuit.

Pixel Driver Redundancy Schemes

Display panel redundancy schemes and redundancy building blocks are described. In an embodiment, pixel driver chips are connected to both primary and redundant strings of LEDs within a local passive matrix, and driver terminal switches within the pixel driver chip are used to select either the primary or redundant strings of LEDs.

A display system includes a light emitting array and a driving device. The light emitting array includes multiple scan lines, multiple drive lines and multiple light emitting elements. The driving device includes a controller, a charge balance line and a charge sharing circuit. The controller generates a control output. The charge sharing circuit is coupled to the drive lines, the charge balance line and the controller, and receives the control output from the controller. With respect to each of the drive lines, the charge sharing circuit is operable, based on the control output, to establish or not establish an electrical connection between the drive line and the charge balance line.

DISPLAYS WITH CURRENT-CONTROLLED PIXEL CLUSTERS

A current-selectable light-emitting-diode (LED) display includes pixels distributed in an array of rows and columns. The pixels are grouped in mutually exclusive clusters and cluster controllers are connected to each pixel in a cluster of pixels to control the pixels in the cluster to emit light. Each cluster controller comprises a selectable current source. Each of the selectable current sources can include cluster current sources that are responsive to a current-select signal to enable one or more of the cluster current sources. The pixels can include micro-LEDs and the cluster controller can be disposed between the micro-LEDs. The display can be disposed on a display substrate with signal wires. The signal wires can include separate wire segments that are electrically connected through regeneration circuits that regenerate the signals. The display can be an information display or a backlight.

Methods of driving a display matrix and matrix waveforms for driving said display matrix between color states are provided. Additionally, reflective displays incorporating a waveform generator to generate a waveform to drive the display from a first color state to a second color state are also provided. The reflective displays can include a display matrix having a plurality of row electrodes and a plurality of column electrodes; a plurality of display elements with an actuator to modify a color of the display element upon actuation; a fixed voltage source; and a waveform generator for determining an amount of time to apply the fixed voltage to each display element to drive the display element from a first color state to a second color state. The reflective display can be based on moving colored inks into and out of the viewable area of each display element to control the color.

SCAN-TYPE DISPLAY APPARATUS CAPABLE OF SHORT CIRCUIT DETECTION, AND SCAN DRIVER THEREOF

A scan-type display apparatus includes an LED array and a scan driver. The LED array has a common anode configuration, and includes multiple scan lines, multiple data lines and multiple LEDs. The scan driver includes multiple scan driving circuits. Each scan driving circuit includes a voltage generator and a detector. The voltage generator has an output terminal that is connected to the scan line corresponding to the scan driving circuit, and is configured to output one of an input voltage and a clamp voltage at the output terminal of the voltage generator. The detector is connected to the output terminal of the voltage generator, and generates a detection signal that indicates whether any one of the LEDs connected to the scan line corresponding to the scan driving circuit is short circuited based on a voltage at the output terminal of the voltage generator and a detection timing signal.

A scan-type display apparatus includes an LED array and a data driver. The LED array has a common anode configuration, and includes multiple scan lines, multiple data lines and multiple LEDs. The data driver includes multiple data driving circuits, each of which includes a current driver and a detector. The current driver has an output terminal connected to the data line corresponding to the data driving circuit, and outputs one of a drive current and a clamp voltage at the output terminal of the current driver based on a pulse width control signal. The detector is connected to the current driver, and generates a detection signal that indicates whether any one of the LEDs connected to the data line corresponding to the data driving circuit is short circuited based on a detection timing signal and a feed-in voltage related to a voltage at the output terminal of the current driver.
