A digital mantel for changeable art and photo displays. The digital mantel may include at least one screen, a power source, and a remote. The displays are structured and arranged to display digital pictures and artwork as desired by a user. The screens may include digital memory, useful for storing digital pictures and artwork for future display. The remote may include selectors, useful for accessing the digital memory. The screens may be accessed via a door in the mantel.

The display apparatus includes a display, a communicator that communicates with an external device; a memory storing one or more instructions; and a controller including a processor for executing the one or more instructions stored in the memory. The processor is configured to execute the one or more instructions to receive an image from the external device, obtain information about a first distance corresponding to a distance between a front surface of the display apparatus and a wall, and, when the image is displayed on the display, apply a shadow effect to one or more of sides of the image based on the information about the first distance.
