An aerosol-generating article is provided, including: a rod of aerosol-generating substrate including a gel composition including at least one gelling agent, at least one of an alkaloid compound and a cannabinoid compound, and an aerosol former; a mouthpiece element; and an intermediate hollow section between the rod and the mouthpiece element and including: a support element downstream of the rod and including a first hollow tubular segment defining a first longitudinal cavity providing a first unrestricted flow channel, the first segment having at least 1 millimeter wall thickness, and an aerosol-cooling element in axial alignment with the mouthpiece element and abutting an upstream end of the mouthpiece element, the aerosol-cooling element including a second hollow tubular segment having a length of less than 10 millimeters, the second segment defining a second longitudinal cavity providing a second unrestricted flow channel, the first and the second channels being empty.

An aerosol-generating article is provided for producing an inhalable aerosol upon heating, the aerosol-generating article including: an aerosol-forming substrate including a gel composition, the gel composition including at least one gelling agent, at least one of an alkaloid compound and a cannabinoid compound, and an aerosol former; an upstream element upstream of the aerosol-forming substrate; and a recess extending from an upstream end of the aerosol-generating article, through the upstream element, and through at least a portion of the aerosol-forming substrate, in which a longitudinal inner surface of the recess is provided with a wrapper.
