System and method for storing redundant information
A method and system for reducing storage requirements and speeding up storage operations by reducing the storage of redundant data includes receiving a request that identifies one or more data objects to which to apply a storage operation. For each data object, the storage system determines if the data object contains data that matches another data object to which the storage operation was previously applied. If the data objects do not match, then the storage system performs the storage operation in a usual manner. However, if the data objects do match, then the storage system may avoid performing the storage operation.
APPARATUS, METHOD, AND PROGRAM PRODUCT FOR TAPE COPYING
An apparatus, method, system, and program product are disclosed for tape copying. One method includes mounting a first source tape of multiple source tapes on a source tape drive. The method includes mounting a destination tape on a destination tape drive. The method also includes copying a first index of an index partition of the first source tape to a first copied index of an index partition of the destination tape. The method includes storing first position information corresponding to the first copied index on the destination tape. The method also includes copying first data of a data partition of the first source tape to a first copied data of a data partition of the destination tape. The method includes storing second position information corresponding to the first copied data on the destination tape.
Magnetic disk and manufacturing method thereof

Imprint template and methods thereof
Provided herein is a method, including forming a first template including a first pattern, wherein forming the first template includes self-assembly of diblock copolymers guided by an initial pattern; forming a second template including a second pattern, wherein the second pattern corresponds to a servo pattern; and forming a master template from the first template, wherein the master template includes one or more portions of the first pattern combined with the second pattern.
Method for backing up data on tape
A method for backing up data on a tape in a file system is provided. This method includes the steps of: copying the data area in the first data area, excluding the third data area, as well as in the second data area to the tape as a single, contiguous fourth area; copying the second data area to a position corresponding to the replacement of the third data area; storing index information for identifying the fourth data area to the tape; copying the third data area to the tape as a fifth data area separate from the fourth data area; and storing on the tape the index information for identifying the data area in the fourth data area excluding the second data area, and the index information for identifying the fifth data area.
Utilization of disk buffer for background replication processes
A method for accelerating a background replication process on storage volumes during application I/O (input/output) requests includes reading requested data from a first storage volume. The method stores the requested data in an embedded memory device, and providing the requested data to the application. The method receives a read request from the background replication process. The method responds to the read request from the background replication process by providing data from the embedded memory device to the requesting background replication process concurrently with providing data to the requesting application. The method stores, by the background replication process, the data provided from the embedded memory device onto a second storage volume.
