Drive-condition setting device and drive-condition setting method for optical scanning apparatus
A drive-condition setting device applied to an optical scanning apparatus having a fiber and an actuator that vibrates a distal end of the fiber, the drive-condition setting device detects a scan pattern of the illumination light output from the fiber, measures resonance frequencies in the x direction and the y direction of the fiber, sets a drive frequency and a drive voltage based on the resonance frequencies such that conditional expressions below are satisfied: when fx>fy, fd<fy and VxVy (1) or fd>fx and VxVy (2), and when fxfy, fd<fx and VxVy (3) or fd>fy and VxVy (4) where fd denotes the drive frequency, Vx denotes a maximum voltage of a X direction drive signal, and Vy denotes a maximum voltage of a y direction drive signal.
Mechanism for transparent virtual tape engines restart
A mechanism for transparent (or non-disruptive) virtual tape engines restart. Specifically, the disclosed mechanism entails preserving a pre-restart state prior to restarting a virtual tape engine, followed by restoring the pre-restart state after the restarting in order to achieve transparency.
Data storage device reverse biasing head element to counter electro-migration
A data storage device is disclosed comprising a first head actuated over a first disk surface, the first head comprising a plurality of elements including a first element. During a first write operation of the first head, a first bias signal having a first polarity is applied to the first element, and a write interval of the first write operation is measured. During a non-write mode of the first head, a second bias signal having a second polarity opposite the first polarity is applied to the first element during a reverse bias interval that is based on the write interval of the first write operation.
Method for correcting position offset of the heads on two dimensional magnetic recording device
According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device includes a disk, a head including a write head and a first and a second read head, and a controller configured to generate a correction value based on placement information on the write head and the first and the second read head, a first distance between the first read head and the second read head in a case where the first read head is placed at a first position of the disk, and a second distance between the first read head and the second read head in a case where the first read head is placed at the first position, and to correct positions of the heads based on the correction value in a case where first data written with the first read head placed at the first position is read.
FORENSIC VIDEO RECORDING WITH PRESENCE DETECTION
At a high level, embodiments of the invention relate to augmenting video data with presence data derived from one or more proximity tags. More specifically, embodiments of the invention generate forensically authenticated recordings linking video imagery to the presence of specific objects in or near the recording. One embodiment of the invention includes video recording system comprising a camera, a wireless proximity tag reader, a storage memory and control circuitry operable to receive image data from the camera receive a proximity tag identifier identifying a proximity tag from the proximity tag reader, and store an encoded frame containing the image data and the proximity tag identity in the storage memory.
Write window protection mode in a tape library
A data storage library is described that protects against a malware attack by providing a scheduled write window of time where archive data can be written to tape cartridges in the tape library on behalf of a client. At times outside of the write window, the tape library is disabled from writing any archive data to any of the tape cartridges in the tape library. Accordingly, the tape library is protected from a malicious entity attempting to download malware to tape cartridges in the tape library outside of the designated write windows. The tape library is configured to provide or otherwise read archived data from a tape cartridge both in the write window and outside of the write window.
REMOTELY CONTROLLING A MAGNETIC TAPE CARTRIDGE
A data storage cartridge according to one embodiment comprises a housing configured to house a data storage medium, a sensor coupled to the housing, and a microcontroller coupled to the sensor. The microcontroller is configured to wirelessly communicate information about the sensor. Other embodiments relate to a data storage cartridge comprising a housing configured to house a data storage medium, a cartridge memory coupled to the housing, the cartridge memory having a wireless communications interface, and a microcontroller in physical communication with the cartridge memory. The microcontroller is configured to wirelessly communicate information retrieved from the cartridge memory. Additional embodiments relate to a data storage cartridge comprising a mechanical write protect mechanism coupled to the housing of the data storage cartridge, an actuator coupled to the mechanical write protect mechanism for selectively changing a state of the mechanical write protect mechanism, and a microcontroller configured to control the actuator.
USE OF NEAR FIELD COMMUNICATION (NFC) TO TRANSFER DVR TIMERS
A mobile device running a mobile application accesses a remote content receiver to request the remote content receiver to retrieve a particular recording timer, and upon receiving the recording timer from the remote content receiver, establishes a radio communication link with a second mobile device and transfers the recording timer to the second mobile device over the established radio communication link. The radio communication link is preferably the Near Field Communication (NFC) link.
