Method for manufacturing disk drive head suspension structures having improved gold-dielectric joint reliability

A disk drive head suspension or flexure and method of manufacture. Embodiments include a portion such as a terminal pad or flying lead comprising a base layer, a dielectric layer on the base layer, a conductor layer, a seed layer between the dielectric layer and the conductor layer, and a noncorrosive metal layer on the seed layer side of the conductor layer. The seed layer has a strip that extends beyond the edge of the dielectric layer. The noncorrosive metal layer extends over the strip of the seed layer and into contact with the edge of the dielectric layer.

Suspension board with circuit

A suspension board with circuit includes a first layer having electrically conductive properties, a second layer having insulation properties and formed at one side in a thickness direction of the first layer, a third layer having electrically conductive properties and formed at one side in the thickness direction of the second layer, and a fourth layer having insulation properties and formed at one side in the thickness direction of the third layer. The first layer includes an electronic component connecting terminal for being electrically connected to an electronic component. The second layer includes a first opening portion passing through in the thickness direction. The third layer includes a first conductive circuit having a magnetic head, and a second conductive circuit. The fourth layer and the second layer are formed with a second opening portion.

A tail pad portion is provided in a flexure tail including a metal base and a conductive circuit portion. Tail terminals are arranged in the tail pad portion. The metal base is made of stainless steel, and includes a frame structure having a first frame and a second frame. An opening is formed between the first frame and the second frame. The tail terminals are arranged parallel to each other between the first frame and the second frame. A bridge portion is formed between the first frame and the second frame. The bridge portion includes at least one bridge element which is a part of the metal base. The bridge element is arranged at a position which overlaps at least one of the tail terminals in the thickness direction.
