Externally-viewable hard disk indicator board and electronic device using the same

An electronic device providing visible indications as to the status of each hard disk in an internal hard disk module includes a housing, a display board, and hard disk controller. The display board displays the operating status of each disk of a plurality of hard disks. The housing defines a first mounting area and a second mounting area. The first mounting area and the second mounting area are spaced apart to form a slot, and the viewable display board is slidably mounted to the slot.

Tape data protection by climate label verification

A tape cartridge for a magnetic tape may be provided. The tape cartridge includes a magnetic tape surrounded by a housing and a temperature indicator that signals a temperature of the tape cartridge, for example, by a thermochromic label. Additionally, a system for tape cartridge data protection that interoperates with the tape cartridge is provided. The system includes a storage for holding a tape cartridge, a sensor that detects temperature information from the temperature indicator of the tape cartridge, and a control unit for controlling an actuator that performs an action depending on the detected temperature information. Furthermore, a method for operating the system for tape cartridge data protection is proposed.

A drive latch apparatus may include a light pipe that transmits light across a distance. The apparatus may also include a light source coupled to a distal end of the light pipe. In addition, the apparatus may include a latch dimensioned to secure a hard drive to a chassis and coupled to a proximal end of the light pipe such that the light from the light source is transmitted to the latch and the latch refracts the light from the light source to emit a visible glow. Various other apparatuses, systems, and methods are also disclosed.

Consistent brightness control of a carrier light pipe

A device carrier for an information handling system includes a latch, an interface, lights located on a front of the latch, and first and second light pipes. The latch holds the device carrier within the information handling system. The first light pipes are located within the latch, and provide light to the lights located on the front of the latch. The second light pipes are located within the interface and the latch, and provide the light to the first light pipes. The location of the second light pipes enables the same brightness of the light provided to the lights when a long device is inserted within the device carrier as compared to when a short device is inserted within the device carrier.
