An integral pressurized water reactor (PWR) comprises: a cylindrical pressure vessel including an upper vessel section and a lower vessel section joined by a mid-flange; a cylindrical central riser disposed concentrically inside the cylindrical pressure vessel and including an upper riser section disposed in the upper vessel section and a lower riser section disposed in the lower vessel section; steam generators disposed inside the cylindrical pressure vessel in the upper vessel section; a reactor core comprising fissile material disposed inside the cylindrical pressure vessel in the lower vessel section; and control rod drive mechanism (CRDM) units disposed inside the cylindrical pressure vessel above the reactor core and in the lower vessel section. There is no vertical overlap between the steam generators and the CRDM units.

Pressure-tube reactor with pressurized moderator

A nuclear reactor can include a pressure vessel for containing a pressurized moderator at a first pressure. The nuclear reactor can also include a plurality of fuel channels for a coolant fluid at a second pressure. The plurality of fuel channels are fluidly connected at inlet ends thereof to a coolant supply conduit and are adapted to receive nuclear fuel bundles and to be mounted within the pressure vessel and surrounded by the moderator. The outlet ends of the fuel channels are fluidly connected to a coolant outlet conduit to enable the coolant fluid to circulate from the coolant supply conduit through the fuel channels to the coolant outlet conduit. The plurality of fuel channels maintain separation between the coolant fluid circulating within the fuel channels and the moderator.

A centering pin for a nuclear reactor core within a reactor vessel includes a central part having a radially inner edge oriented toward the core and a horizontal thickness along the radially inner edge. The pin includes an upper hydrodynamic profile, which is disposed above the central part and forms a vertical wing leading edge extending from the central part and having an upper height above the central part. The pin includes a lower hydrodynamic profile, which is disposed below the central part and forms a vertical wing trailing edge extending from the central part and having a lower height below the central part. The upper height has a maximum variation of more or less 25% relative to the horizontal thickness. The lower height has a maximum variation of more or less 25% relative to the horizontal thickness.
