An improved tape measure apparatus which includes a catch that is both slidable and rotatable relative to the rule blade in a plane which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the rule blade when the rule blade is extended from the tape casing. In one embodiment the catch can both rotate and slide relative to the rule blade when frictional forces exceed a predefined minimum or are within a predefined range.

The present invention relates measuring tapes and methods for making thereof. In particular, the measuring tape of the present invention contains a wipe mechanism for cleaning the tape as it retracts into its housing. The wipe mechanism contains a top wipe and a bottom wipe for removing debris from the top and bottom surfaces of the tape, respectively, when it is retracted after use.

Tape rule assembly with a flexible cover at opening in housing

Disclosed is a rule assembly having a housing, a reel rotatably mounted in the housing, an elongated blade wound on the reel and extendable through an opening in the housing, and an end hook member attached to the elongated blade. A hook portion extends downwardly below a bottom surface of the housing when the blade is in a fully retracted position. The housing has an opening having an upper portion disposed above the blade, and a flexible cover overhanging the opening to inhibit or prevent penetration of debris therein. The cover is flexed by the end hook member upon impact by force (e.g., when dropped) and permits movement of the end hook member into the opening to reduce deformation of the end hook member. Optionally, a grip cover made of elastomeric material is provided on the housing and the cover is part of the grip cover.

Tape measure with fluid-based retraction speed controller

A tool, such as a tape measure, including a spring-based retraction system is shown. The tape measure includes a fluid-based retraction speed controller. The speed controller may be formed from a rotor/stator arrangement. The rotor is coupled to the reel and the stator is coupled to the housing opposing the rotor. The rotor converts some rotational energy from tape reel into movement of a fluid (e.g., movement of air, movement of oil, etc. through friction) which acts to slow or limit the retraction/rotational speed of the reel as the retraction spring expands driving the reel during tape blade retraction.

Metrology system

Apparatuses, systems and methods associated with a metrology system for high-speed, non-contact coordinate measurements of parts are disclosed herein. In embodiments, the metrology system includes a metrology bridge to be coupled to a measurement assembly. The measurement assembly may include a stage moveable across multiple independent axes. The bridge may include a housing, mounting members coupled to the housing, and a plurality of sensors mounted within the housing. The mounting members may rotatably couple the housing to the measurement assembly. Further, sensor elements of the plurality of sensor devices may be aligned along a length of the housing and may be directed out of the housing.

TAPE MEASURE WITH FLEXIBLE FINGER BRAKE AND RELATED METHOD

A tape measure may include a housing including an interior space and a brake opening in communication with the interior space, a reel rotatably supported within the interior space, a tape blade at least partially wound on the reel, and a finger brake positioned adjacent the brake opening. The finger brake may include a support frame attached to the housing and including a frame opening, and a flexible member attached to the support frame and extending over the frame opening. The flexible member may be configured to deflect or elastically deform from a released position in which the flexible member is spaced apart from the tape blade to an engaged position in which at least a portion of the flexible member contacts a portion of the tape blade.

System and Method for Making a Fluid Container with Integrated and Locking Measuring Tape

The invention is a fluid container, such as a flask or canteen, positioned in previously unused spaces found in the housing of a measuring tape mechanism. The present invention possesses a fluid container or vessel place inside the external housing of a measuring tape component (with an opening and cap), which simultaneously encloses an internal integrated spooled measuring tape with spring-loaded retracting measuring tape with a locking mechanism. The present invention allows for the simultaneous placement of a fluid container inside previously unused space in a measuring tape housing to store fluids in an efficient and effective manner without requiring two separate vessels or components, to allow for a more efficient and effective incorporation of a useful fluid vessel in previously unused space in a measuring tape mechanism to provide storage of hydration or medicinal fluids in a more efficient and effective manner on construction or work sites.
