The invention relates to a casting apparatus for the production of a cast sheet of homogenized tobacco material, said casting system comprising

a casting box adapted to contain a slurry of the homogenized tobacco material;

a movable support;

a casting system adapted to deposit the slurry contained in the casting box onto the movable support so as to form the cast sheet;

a sensor to detect a thickness of the cast sheet;

wherein the sensor includes a slider comprising a planar surface adapted to be in contact to a top surface of the cast sheet and a height detector adapted to measure the height of the planar surface so as to derive the thickness of the cast sheet.

The invention also relates to a method to measure the thickness of a homogenized tobacco sheet.

A thickness detector device and method, a detector system and a slot device are provided, and the thickness detector device includes: a base, which has a side wall provided with a through slot that penetrates through the base; a slot component at the base and has n slots, n being an integer greater than 1, and a width of each slot being less than a width of the through slot; a driver component which is provided on the base, is in a fixed connection with the slot component, and is configured to change the slot that is in the slot component and is in communication with the through slot by driving the slot component to move.

Method and apparatus for scanning surfaces of a three-dimensional object employ a first sensor to acquire first data points and a second sensor to acquire second data points. The first sensor has a relatively lower accuracy and faster data point acquisition rate than the second sensor, and the second data points are assigned a higher weighting than the first data points.
