A portion of the plunger sits inside of the hollow storage chamber, and a spring sits inside of the hollow plunger. Alternatively, the plunger has a rod that has teeth on one side and a groove on the other side, to lock or unlock the plunger.

The discharge assembly includes a transmission member and a compression member that are connected to each other. The compression member is elastic. A fluid delivery system of a dental cleaning appliance includes a pump for drawing a working fluid through a fluid inlet, a hydraulic actuator for receiving working fluid from the pump, a drive for actuating the pump, and a nozzle having a fluid outlet for ejecting working fluid from the appliance. The drive includes a motor and a control circuit for operating the motor. The control circuit is configured to detect stalling of the motor in response to the load applied to the pump by the pressurized working fluid stored in the accumulator, and to deactivate the motor when stalling of the motor has been detected.

The dispenser may include: a housing defining a cavity; a wall in the cavity, the wall dividing the cavity into first and second reservoirs of variable volume, the first reservoir containing an oral care fluid; a first opening in fluid communication with the first reservoir, wherein the oral care fluid is dispensable from the dispenser through the first opening; a second opening in fluid communication with the second reservoir; and an actuator operable to dispense the oral care fluid through the first opening. In an embodiment, the oral care dispenser may form a part of a system that includes an oral care implement, such as a toothbrush.
