Meter box having adjustable length meter couplings

Illustrative embodiments of a meter box and couplings, either separately or in combination, are provided. An illustrative embodiment provides a valve coupling that is disposed through a wall of the meter box such that a first portion of the valve coupling extends exterior of the meter box and a second portion of the valve coupling extends interior of the meter box. An outlet coupling is disposed through the wall of the meter box such that a first portion of the outlet coupling extends exterior of the meter box and a second portion of the outlet coupling extends interior of the meter box. A telescoping tube is located in the meter box, extended into and movable relative to, and in fluid communication with, at least one of the second portion of the valve coupling and/or the second portion of the outlet coupling. The telescoping tube varies a distance between the valve coupling and the outlet coupling within the meter box.

A meter bypass assembly includes a housing and a valve assembly. The housing defines a first inlet and a first outlet, and a second inlet and a second outlet. The valve assembly is rotatable to a first position in which fluid is allowed to flow from the first inlet to the first outlet and from the second inlet to the second outlet. The valve assembly is also rotatable to a second position in which fluid is allowed to flow from the first inlet to the second outlet and is restricted from flowing from the first inlet to the first outlet and from the second inlet to the second outlet. The valve assembly includes a shaft extending in a longitudinal direction of the housing and first and second valve bodies rotationally fixed to opposing ends of the shaft.

The flow sensor includes a gauge that provides a first level of information about flow through the sensor, and an indicator associated with the gauge that can provided a second level of information about flow through the sensor. The indicator might be in the form of a dial that can rotate about the gauge and might include a locked position for monitoring flow and an unlocked position to rotate the dial about the gauge to reposition the dial. A twisted shaft with varying twist rate is provided to convert linear motion to rotational motion for the gauge.

In an embodiment of the invention, the hinge nut includes at least two portions attached to each other by a hinge pin adjacent a distal end of each portion and the two portions are configured to be moved between an open position and a closed position. The closed position forms an outer surface and an opening forming an inner surface. The inner surface includes a first interior diameter adjacent a distal end of the opening and a second interior diameter adjacent the first interior diameter. The second interior diameter is greater than the first interior diameter and forms a lip and at least a portion of the second interior diameter includes threading.
