The present invention relates to a sensing and control device (40) and method for a weight measurement device (30) comprising a load unit for loading material to be weighted. To enable precise measurement with less expensive components, said sensing and control device comprises analog circuitry (50) configured to receive a weight measurement signal, convert the received weight measurement signal into a first voltage signal, subtract a second voltage signal representing the weight of at least the load unit without being loaded with material to be weighted from the first voltage signal when the load unit is loaded with material to be weighted to generate a third voltage signal representing the weight of the material to be weighted, and control circuitry (60) configured to receive the first voltage signal while the load unit is not loaded with material to be weighted, convert the first voltage signal into a first digital signal, and generate a pulse width modulated, PWM, signal having a pulse width representing the weight measured by the load unit while not being loaded with material to be weighted, and further configured to convert the third voltage signal into a second digital signal representing the weight measurement of the material to be weighted. The analog circuitry (50) is configured to generate the second voltage signal from the PWM signal generated by the control circuitry, wherein the voltage level of the second voltage signal is proportional to the pulse width of the PWM signal.

Method and apparatus for zeroing a weigh scale

An optical code scanner is presented that includes a weigh scale and a least one image capture device. The image capture device captures images that are used to read optical codes presented to the optical code scanner for reading. The image capture device further captures images of the top surface of a weigh plate on the weigh scale. The optical code scanner analyzes the images of the weigh plate before performing a zero function on the weigh scale to determine if an object has been placed on or is touching the weigh plate. The zero function is only performed when no object is placed on or is touching the weigh plate.

A weight scale system for measuring the weight of an object includes a bed section, a vertical separator actuator and a controller. The bed section includes a lower-platform, an upper-platform and weight sensor assemblies located on the lower-platform, each includes at least one weight sensor. The bed section further includes at least one vertical-separator. The vertical-separator actuator is coupled with the vertical-separator and with the controller. The controller is further coupled with the weight sensors. The controller directs the vertical-separator actuator to operate the bed section in at least two modes, a referencing mode in which the vertical-separator detaches the upper-platform from the weight sensor assemblies, thereby enabling referencing the weight sensors, and a weighing mode, in which the vertical separator re-attaches the upper-platform with the weight sensor assemblies, such the that the weight associated with the upper-platform is fully applied on the weight sensors.

The electronic balance is configured to be capable of performing the following series of operations (I) to (VII) automatically: (I) The opening and closing mechanism opens the door. (II) The moving up/down mechanism applies the load of the built-in weight to the weighing mechanism. (III) The opening and closing mechanism closes the door. (IV) After a predetermined period of time elapses, the opening and closing mechanism opens the door. (V) The moving up/down mechanism removes the load of the built-in weight from the weighing mechanism. (VI) The opening and closing mechanism closes the door. (VII) The control unit performs zero-point adjustment of the weighed value. Accordingly, operation of preliminary loading is automatically performed, and thus the stability of the weighing accuracy is improved.
