Remote sensing and measurement system using time-of-flight detectors
A measurement system is provided with an array of laser diodes with one or more Bragg reflectors. At least a portion of the light generated by the array is configured to penetrate tissue comprising skin. A detection system configured to: measure a phase shift, and a time-of-flight, of at least a portion of the light from the array of laser diodes reflected from the tissue relative to the portion of the light generated by the array; generate one or more images of the tissue; detect oxy- or deoxy-hemoglobin in the tissue; non-invasively measure blood in blood vessels within or below a dermis layer within the skin; measure one or more physiological parameters based at least in part on the non-invasively measured blood; and measure a variation in the blood or physiological parameter over a period of time.
Hyper-spectral imaging of airborne biological particles
A particle monitoring device includes a camera sensor for imaging particles, a set of light sources, and an optical component. A first light source provides light of a first color component. A second light source provides light of a second color component. The optical component receives light of the first color component in a first direction from the first light source, and redirects the light of the first color component in an output direction towards the particles to illuminate the particles using light of the first color component. The optical component receives light of a second color component in a second direction, different from the first direction, from the second light source, and redirects the light of the second color component in the output direction towards the particles to illuminate the particles using light of the second color component.
SPECTRAL FEATURE CONTROL APPARATUS
A spectral feature selection apparatus includes a dispersive optical element arranged to interact with a pulsed light beam; three or more refractive optical elements arranged in a path of the pulsed light beam between the dispersive optical element and a pulsed optical source; and one or more actuation systems, each actuation system associated with a refractive optical element and configured to rotate the associated refractive optical element to thereby adjust a spectral feature of the pulsed light beam. At least one of the actuation systems is a rapid actuation system that includes a rapid actuator configured to rotate its associated refractive optical element about a rotation axis. The rapid actuator includes a rotary stepper motor having a rotation shaft that rotates about a shaft axis that is parallel with the rotation axis of the associated refractive optical element.

Echelle spectrometer
Spectrometers include an optical assembly with optical elements arranged to receive light from a light source and direct the light along a light path to a multi-element detector, dispersing light of different wavelengths to different spatial locations on the multi-element detector. The optical assembly includes: (i) a collimator arranged in the light path to receive the light from the light source, the collimator including a mirror having a freeform surface; (2) a dispersive sub-assembly including an echelle grating, the dispersive sub-assembly being arranged in the light path to receive light from the collimator; and (3) a Schmidt telescope arranged in the light path to receive light from the dispersive sub-assembly and focus the light to a field, the multi-element detector being arranged at the field.
Miniature Grism System for Astronomical Spectroscopy
The invention is directed at a miniature grism system. The miniature grism system is a single compact device that comprises a grism with collimating and focusing optics. In an aspect, the grism includes at least one prism and a grating. In an aspect, the miniature grism system, and more specifically the grism, includes at least one prism which is placed on either side of the grating. The focusing optics and the collimating optics are found on opposite sides of the grism system, sandwiching the prism and grating of the grism. In an aspect, the miniature grism system is configured to be retained within a filter wheel. The miniature grism system is configured to be used with telescopes having a small focal ratio.
SHORT-WAVE INFRARED SENSOR FOR IDENTIFYING BASED ON WATER CONTENT
An optical system operating in the near or short-wave infrared wavelength range identifies an object based on water absorption. The system comprises a light source with modulated light emitting diodes operating at wavelengths near 1090 and 1440 nanometers, corresponding to lower and higher water absorption. The system further comprises one or more wavelength selective filters and a housing that is further coupled to an electrical circuit and a processor. The detection system comprises photodetectors that are synchronized to the light source, and the detection system receives at least a portion of light reflected from the object. The system is configured to identify the object by comparing the reflected light at the first and second wavelength to generate an output value, and then comparing the output value to a threshold. The optical system may be further coupled to a wearable device or a remote sensing system with a time-of-flight sensor.

A linear frequency domain grating and a multiband spectrometer having the same. The linear frequency domain grating includes a dispersive optical element and a diffractive optical element being substantially in contact with the dispersive optical element or being substantially integrated with the dispersive optical element, configured to receive a beam of incident light along an incident optical path, and diffract and disperse it into its constituent spectrum of frequencies of the light that is output from the dispersive optical element along an output optical path, such that the output light has a spatial distribution on a focal plane in the output optical path that is a linear function of the frequency. The linear frequency domain grating is a transmissive-type grating or a reflective-type grating, depending on whether the incident optical path and the output optical path are in different sides or the same side of the diffractive optical element.

ACTIVE REMOTE SENSING SYSTEM USING TIME-OF-FLIGHT SENSOR WITH APPLICATIONS TO CAMERAS AND VEHICLE OR AIRBORNE PLATFORMS
An active remote sensing system is provided with an array of laser diodes that generate light directed to an object having one or more optical wavelengths that include at least one near-infrared wavelength between 600 nanometers and 1000 nanometers. One of the laser diodes pulses at a modulation frequency between 10 Megahertz and 1 Gigahertz and has a phase associated with the modulation frequency. A detection system includes a photo-detector, a lens, a spectral filter at an input to the photo-detector, and a processor that processes digitized signals received from the photo-detector to generate an output signal. The detection system uses a lock-in technique that synchronizes pulsing the one laser diode. The active remote sensing system is configured to be mounted on a vehicle or an airborne platform to provide distance information based on a time-of-flight measurement.
