Optical device

An optical device includes an elastic support portion which includes a torsion bar extending in a second direction perpendicular to a first direction and a nonlinearity relaxation spring connected between the torsion bar and a movable portion. The nonlinearity relaxation spring is configured so that a deformation amount of the nonlinearity relaxation spring around the second direction is smaller than a deformation amount of the torsion bar around the second direction and a deformation amount of the nonlinearity relaxation spring in a third direction perpendicular to the first direction and the second direction is larger than a deformation amount of the torsion bar in the third direction while the movable portion moves in the first direction. A first comb finger of a first comb electrode and a second comb finger of a second comb electrode which are adjacent to each other face each other in the second direction.

The system for very early detection and suppression of fires is comprised of the network of low orbiting micro-satellites, local drones, processing and communication equipment and fire suppression capabilities with fire retardants and water delivered by drones, helicopters, planes and/or ground fire crews. Micro-satellites and drones are equipped with very sensitive, high resolution imaging spectrometers operating in multiple visible and infrared wavelengths. Processors are used to analyze spectroscopic micro-satellite images to detect fires and to verify validity of fire detection by analysis of spectroscopic drone images. The system can prevent large wild fires anywhere in the world rapidly with high detection sensitivity and reliability.

A spectrographic system includes a space-borne spectrometer in communication with a ground-based processor. The space-borne spectrometer may include an interferometer, a detector array downstream from the interferometer, and a spectrometer controller configured to cooperate with the detector array to collect Fourier Transform Spectral (FTS) data, generate Principle Component Analysis (PCA) scores from the collected FTS data, generate an approximate interferogram based upon the PCA scores and the collected FTS data, generate residuals based upon the approximate interferogram, and generate compressed FTS data based upon the PCA scores and residuals to be sent to the ground-based processor.

Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy using a mobile device

This document describes techniques and devices for Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy using a mobile device. A mobile device (502) includes a light source (504) that emits light toward an interferometer (508) that uses mirrors to separate and recombine the light. The interferometer directs the recombined light toward a person. Light reflected from, or transmitted through, the person is received through a reception port (506) to a photodetector (510) that outputs photodetector data that corresponds to a measured light intensity of the reflected and transmitted light as a function of a path length of the light or a mirror position of the interferometer. Based on the photodetector data, an interferogram is generated. Applying a technique such as a Fourier transform to the interferogram, a spectrum data set of the reflected and transmitted light is generated. Based on the spectrum data set, a concentration of solutes in the person's blood is calculated.

Wavelength reference device

Described herein is a wavelength reference device comprising a housing defining an internal environment having a known temperature. A broadband optical source is disposed within the housing and configured to emit an optical signal along an optical path. The optical signal has optical power within a wavelength band of interest. An optical etalon is also disposed within the housing and positioned in the optical path to filter the optical signal to define a filtered optical signal that includes one or more reference spectral features having a known wavelength at the known temperature. The device also includes an optical output for outputting the filtered optical signal.
