The PIR sensor is configured to sense infrared radiation and then generate an electronic signal. The thermometer is configured to sense an ambient temperature and then generate a temperature value. The microprocessor is electrically connected to the thermometer, and the amplifying unit is electrically connected to the pyroelectric infrared radial sensor and the microprocessor. The amplification adjusting units corresponding to a plurality of temperature intervals are electrically connected to the microprocessor and the amplifying unit. The microprocessor selects to enable one of the amplification adjusting units based on a comparison between the temperature value and the temperature intervals, such that the amplifying unit may modulate the electrical signal according to the enabled amplification adjusting unit.

The control unit is adapted to provide either a first signal or a second signal, depending on the strength of the motion and a comparison of the first and second images, where the first signal indicates a presence of the target and the second signal indicates an absence of the target. Also disclosed are a system for controlling lighting in a room, a method for detecting a presence of a target in a room, and a corresponding use of an apparatus for controlling lighting in a room.

An infrared thermal camera can be installed in a vehicle, such as a car, to provide different capabilities including night vision, passenger temperature monitoring, liveness detection, and avoidance of collisions with animals. The camera may be located inside the vehicle facing outwards through the front windshield. The camera may be used in multiple modes. In a first mode, the camera may be used to provide night vision or other thermal imaging of a scene outside the vehicle using a first field of view. In a second mode, the camera may be used to provide thermal imaging of a scene at least partially inside the vehicle using a second field of view, which may be useful, for example, for scanning the skin temperatures of occupants.

A system for detecting a temperature of a railroad train wheel or bearing includes a thermal line scanner and a processor. The thermal line scanner is positioned to capture a plurality of thermal line scans of the wheel or bearing. The processor is configured to analyze each of the plurality of thermal line scans, identify a selected line of the plurality of thermal line scans, and calculate the temperature of the wheel or the bearing based on the selected line. Thus, the system and method disclosed herein reduce the acquired thermal data first to a single line for one or both of the wheel temperature and bearing temperature and then to single values.
