A brake temperature sensing system for an aircraft including a sensor apparatus and an interrogation apparatus. The sensor apparatus includes a temperature sensor for attachment to a brake disc of an aircraft brake, and a relay for attachment to the brake. The temperature sensor is configured to wirelessly transmit a measurement signal containing information relating to a temperature of the brake disc, responsive to receiving a wireless interrogation signal. The relay is configured to receive an interrogation signal from the interrogation apparatus; wirelessly transmit the interrogation signal to the temperature sensor; receive the wireless measurement signal from the temperature sensor; and transmit the received measurement signal. The interrogation apparatus comprises a controller configured to generate an interrogation signal; and a transceiver configured to transmit the generated interrogation signal to the sensor apparatus; and receive the measurement signal transmitted by the sensor apparatus.

Operational condition monitoring system

A condition monitoring device for monitoring machinery includes a combination of on-board sensors and a condition monitoring module. The on-board sensors include modules for non-contact temperature, magnetic flux and 3-axis vibration sensing of the machinery. The condition monitoring module provides a condition monitoring signal containing information about an operating condition of the machinery, based upon a data synthesis condition monitoring technique that synthesizes non-contact temperature, magnetic flux and 3-axis vibration sensed data received from the combination of on-board sensors, determines a current operating condition of the machinery, and compares the current operating condition and the baseline operating condition of the machinery.

TEMPERATURE ESTIMATION METHOD, TEMPERATURE ESTIMATION DEVICE, AND NON-TRANSITORY COMPUTER-READABLE RECORDING MEDIUM

A brake device applies a braking force to a vehicle by pressing a friction material against a rotor rotating integrally with a wheel. A temperature estimation method applied to the brake device includes: calculating an amount of absorbed energy absorbed by the rotor based on an amount of kinetic energy that the vehicle loses and an amount of potential energy that the vehicle loses during braking of the vehicle; and estimating a temperature of the rotor based on the amount of absorbed energy.

Method for forming a temperature sensing layer within a thermal barrier coating

A thermal barrier coated component, such as a turbine blade formed from a superalloy substrate, includes a thermal barrier coating applied onto the substrate. A metallic bond coat layer is on the substrate and includes rare-earth luminescent dopants. A ceramic top coat layer is on the bond coat layer. A temperature sensing thermally grown oxide (TGO) layer is formed at the interface of the bond coat layer and ceramic top coat layer. The temperature sensing TGO layer includes grown rare-earth luminescent ions migrated from the metallic bond coat layer in an amount sufficient to enable luminescence sensing of the TGO layer for real-time phosphor thermometry temperature measurements at the TGO layer.
