WIND TUNNEL FOR A MOTOR VEHICLE AND METHOD FOR OPERATING A WIND TUNNEL

A wind tunnel for a motor vehicle, with a fan, a test section, through which an air stream generated by the fan can flow, a recording device for recording different motor vehicles within the test section, and a testing device for determining aerodynamic characteristics of the motor vehicle. The wind tunnel also includes an optical sensing device for sensing an outer contour of the motor vehicle recorded by the recording device, an evaluating unit and a linking unit. The evaluating unit determines a vehicle configuration from the outer contour of the motor vehicle sensed by the optical sensing device. The linking unit links the vehicle configuration of the motor vehicle determined by the evaluating unit with the test results determined by the testing device.

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SEEDING A WIND TUNNEL
20230266197 · 2023-08-24 ·

A portable tracer fluid injection system. The system has a vapor cloud generator which vaporizes a vapor cloud generating liquid. The vapor cloud generator is uses a sub-ohm resistive heater to vaporize small volumes of the vapor cloud generating liquid, allowing for a relatively small tracer fluid injection system. This system has the benefit of being able to target specific regions of a test object within a wind tunnel and being usable for different positions within the test section of a wind tunnel.

A wind tunnel device may include a waste disposal unit configured to collect fluid from a droplet extractor positioned in a wind tunnel. The waste disposal unit may include a drain line and a liquid trap integrated in the drain line. The liquid trap may be adjustable during operation of the wind tunnel to accommodate different tunnel operating conditions (e.g., wind speeds) such that liquid waste does not backflow into the wind tunnel.

A photovoltaic system includes a collection of photovoltaic modules, a base supporting the collection of photovoltaic modules, and a damper coupled between the collection of photovoltaic modules and the base. The damper resists movement of the photovoltaic modules relative to the base. The damper has a first damping ratio when the collection of photovoltaic modules moves at a first rate relative to the base and a second damping ratio when the collection of photovoltaic modules moves at a second rate relative to the base, and the damper passively transitions from the first damping ratio to the second damping ratio.

Ice Detection and Precautionary System Shut-Down Event Reduction Systems and Related Methods

Ice detection test apparatuses, systems, and methods are disclosed. In some cases, ice detection and precautionary system shut-down event reduction systems and related methods are provided. The system utilizes a turbine engine ice detection apparatus that includes and engine pressure simulation device, an air moving device, and a first air pressure sensor associated with the engine pressure simulation device. The embodiment further includes an ice monitor controller that receives inputs from the first air pressure sensor and at least one second sensor located adjacent a turbine engine intake. The ice monitor controller performs comparisons of inputs from these sensors against each other and stored values to determine actual icing conditions then generate warnings on a display to an operator. The exemplary control section has multiple modes including manual, semi-manual and automatic.
