A centrifugal field-flow fractionation device includes: a rotor having a rotation axis, the rotor being provided to be rotatable about the rotation axis; a cover covering the rotor; a protective member arranged inside the cover to over the rotor about the rotation axis; a shock-absorbing member arranged between the protective member and the cover; and a fixing part provided in a breakable manner to fix the protective member to the cover. The rotor is arranged such that the rotation axis orients in a horizontal direction. In a case where a part of the rotor disintegrates and is brought into contact with the protective member during the rotation of the rotor, the fixing part breaks to cause the protective member and the shock-absorbing member to move with the rotor while receiving the impact of the rotor to buffer the kinetic energy of the rotor.

Fluidic cavities for on-chip layering and sealing of separation arrays

A method for fabricating a fluidic device includes depositing a sacrificial material on a pillar array arranged on a substrate. The method also includes removing a portion of the sacrificial material. The method further includes depositing a sealing layer on the pillar array to form a sealed fluidic cavity.

Particle detection device and a method for detecting airborne particles

The invention relates to a particle detection device and a method for detecting particles in a fluid by means of separation. A channel structure is arranged for separating an incoming flow into a major flow comprising a minor portion of particles above the first predetermined size and a minor flow comprising a major portion of particles above the predetermined size. One or more detectors are arranged for detecting particles in the major flow and minor flow. The channel structure further comprises a choked flow restriction arranged for enabling a constant flow independent of pressure conditions.

Device and method for real-time detection of aeropathogens

The invention provides a device and method for the real-time detection of aeropathogens. The device includes an aerosampler having an air inlet and at least one collector tube, a microfluidic system which includes a container, piping, a micro pump for flowing a liquid and a viral detection chamber. The viral detection chamber has an electrode which may be equipped with functionalized bio sensors, a counter electrode, an electronic detection system connectable to the electrodes of the viral detection chamber, and an embedded electronic processing system for processing data from the electronic detection system.

SMART NEBULIZER

A nebulizer system capable of identifying when activation has occurred and aerosol is being produced. The nebulizer system monitors the inhalation and exhalation flow generated by the patient and communicates proper breathing technique for optimal drug delivery. The nebulizer system may monitor air supply to the nebulizer to ensure it is within the working range and is producing, or is capable of producing, acceptable particle size and drug output rate. When a patient, caregiver or other user deposits or inserts medication into the nebulizer, the nebulizer system is able to identify the medication and determine the appropriate delivery methods required to properly administer the medication as well as output this information into a treatment log to ensure the patient is taking the proper medications. The system is able to measure the concentration of the medication and volume of the medication placed within the medication receptacle, e.g., bowl.

Methods and device for manipulating objects

A method is provided for manipulating objects in a cavity including a liquid, the method including providing in at least one region of the cavity objects capable of absorbing light in a given wavelength range, forming an aggregate of the objects by submitting them to an acoustic field, and disrupting the aggregate by submitting the aggregate to a light beam emitting at the given wavelength range. Also provided is a device for manipulating objects.

A particle sensing device is disclosed for sensing particles entrained in a gas, distribution of particle sizes including a first size range (e.g. PM2.5) and a second size range (e.g. PM10), larger than the first size range. A thermophoretic impulse is applied to the entrained particles. The device has a a first sensor, downstream of the thermophoretic impulse region. The thermophoretic impulse, the flow of gas and gravity combine to cause at least some of the particles to follow respective trajectories within the sampling volume. An interception unit is interposed between the thermophoretic impulse region and the first sensor, to intercept the respective trajectories of particles of the second size range but not respective trajectories of particles of the first size range. The first sensor is located to intercept and detect the respective trajectories of particles of the first size range.

Quasi-soft catcher, quasi-soft capture device, and method using the same

A quasi-soft catcher, a quasi-soft capture device, and a method for using the same are provided. The quasi-soft catcher includes a base and a plurality of protruding structures for capturing at least one target biological particle from a specimen. The protruding structures are regularly arranged on a board surface of the base. Each of the protruding structures includes an outer portion configured to touch the at least one target biological particle and an inner portion that is connected between the board surface and the outer portion, and a structural strength of the inner portion is less than that of the outer portion.
