SCREENING DEMULSIFIERS FOR CRUDE OIL-WATER EMULSIONS
20200217767 · 2020-07-09 ·

Certain implementations of the subject matter can be implemented as a method of screening demulsifiers for live crude oil-water emulsions. A live emulsion of a hydrocarbon sample and a water sample is flowed through a capillary viscometer. The live emulsion includes dissolved gases retrieved from a hydrocarbon-carrying reservoir. While flowing the live emulsion through the capillary viscometer, a demulsifier sample is flowed through the capillary viscometer. The demulsifier sample causes breakdown of the live emulsion. Using the capillary viscometer, change in a viscosity of the live emulsion over time resulting from the breakdown of the live emulsion due to the demulsifier sample is measured. Multiple images of the breakdown of the live emulsion over time are captured. A strength of the live emulsion is classified based, in part, on the change in the viscosity of the live emulsion over time and on the plurality of images.

Near InfraRed NIR technology, including NIR cameras and detectors, and one or more visual cameras are used to generate superimposed image data representing a visual/NIR composite image of wood product and correlating moisture levels with physical features of the surfaces of the wood product. By analyzing the visual/NIR composite image represented by superimposed image data, moisture pockets near an open physical feature that, absent the presence open physical feature would be a problem, can be identified and ignored. Based on the identified moisture levels at various locations in a given wood product, and the proximity of physical features to the identified moisture locations, one or more actions are taken with respect to wood product to ensure the wood product is put to the most efficient, effective, and valuable use.

DNA sequencing system with stacked BSI global shutter image sensor

An improved DNA sequencing system comprising a DNA sample holder residing on a stacked BSI global shutter image sensor illuminated by a pulsed laser for fluorescent illumination detection. The pulsed laser has on and off periods wherein during the laser on period a Fluorophore tag attached to a DNA sample is excited to produce fluorescence emission while the imaging system captures no illumination and during the off period the global shutter imaging system captures persistent fluorescent emission from the DNA sample and reads out an imaging signal.

Non-invasive visualization and quantification of natural pigments

A system for visualizing melanin present in tissue can include an imaging system to record a signal based on a presence of melanin in tissue and a display device to display an image based on the signal. A first laser source can emit a Stokes pulse train and a second laser source can emit a pump pulse train. Both the first laser source and the second laser source comprise a tunable center wavelength or frequency. An energy difference between a frequency of the Stokes pulse train and a frequency of the pump pulse train is from 1750 cm.sup.1 to 2250 cm.sup.1.
