Automated system and method for clarity measurements and clarity grading
A computer-based system and method for taking clarity measurements of a gem, and a computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions, are provided and include receiving a pixilated image of a gem and identifying pixels representing an inclusion. The method and medium further include determining characteristics of the inclusion as a function of the pixels representing the inclusion, and providing a clarity grade based upon the determined characteristics. Also provided is a method for mapping a gem, and a computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions, which include receiving a pixilated image of a gem having facet edges, and identifying pixels representing the facet edges. The method and medium further include generating a diagram of the gem, such that the diagram is a function of the pixels representing the facet edges, and superimposing the diagram onto the pixilated image.

INSPECTION OF DRINKING STRAW
Method and arrangements for inspection of a drinking straw (101; 201) involving use of the drinking straw (101; 201) as a light guide for inspection of a sidewall (102; 202) of the drinking straw (101; 201) based on light leakage of guided light out from the drinking straw (101; 201) via the sidewall (102), such a through a damage (204) in the sidewall (102). It is illuminated (601), by means of one or more light sources (123), a first portion (131) of the drinking straw (101; 201) so that at least some of the light (127) on the first portion (131) is transmitted through a sidewall (102; 202) of the drinking straw (101; 201) into the drinking straw (101), and is guided therein. It is provided (602) one or more digital images (241) imaging another, second, portion (133; 233) of the drinking straw (101; 201) during said illumination. A light pattern captured by said one or more digital images (241) is analysed (603), corresponding to light escape of the internally reflected light out from the second portion (133) of the drinking straw (101; 201) via a sidewall (102; 202) of the drinking straw (101; 201). The damage (204) may be detected as a local spot (243) of image data discrepancy.
INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS AND INFORMATION PROCESSING METHOD
Based on a defective state of a structure, a degree of soundness that indicates how much the structure is sound is determined. Information about a defective state of the structure that provides grounds for this determination is outputted.
System and method for finding dents on an automobile using a booth
A system and method for finding dents on an automobile is described herein. The system, in one embodiment, can be a booth that has a support structure, a plurality of wall sections, a roof, and interior surface defined at least in part by the wall sections and the roof, and a first geometric repeating pattern on a first region of the interior space. The method in one embodiment, can be receiving an automobile within the booth described above, illuminating the booth to cause the first geometric repeating pattern of the booth to reflect off a surface of said automobile; and identifying presence of defects using a reflected pattern, the reflected pattern a reflected image of the first geometric repeating pattern on the automobile.
Support system for specified inspection, support method for specified inspection, and non-transitory computer readable medium
The purpose of the present invention is to increase accuracy of a specific test using an electronic microscope and improve work efficiency. Provided is a system that identifies test recipe information corresponding to an object to be tested on the basis of attribute information about a testing sample, and analyzes and evaluates the object to be tested contained in the testing sample by checking image data and element analysis data that are acquired by a measuring device in accordance with a control program for the test recipe information, against reference image data and reference element analysis data that are used as evaluation references for the object to be tested.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ASSESSING WEAR ON THE TREAD OF A SHOE FOR LIMITING SLIP AND FALL RISK
A system for monitoring the tread of a shoe includes a frame member, a waveguide structured to support the shoe when an outer sole of shoe is in contact with a surface of the waveguide, a light source structured to provide light within an edge of the waveguide such that the light will be internally reflected within the waveguide, and an imaging device structured and configured to generate an image of the outer sole of the shoe when the outer sole of shoe is in contact with the waveguide and the light is being provided within the waveguide. The system also includes a controller structured and configured to: (i) receive image data based on the image of the outer sole; (ii) determine from the image data a largest worn region size for the shoe; and (iii) determine a slip risk for the shoe based on the largest worn region size.
SURFACE ANALYSIS OF GEMSTONES
Systems and methods here may be used for capturing and analyzing reflectance images of facets on a gemstone under particular lighting and camera setups to automatically generate a clarity grade and/or surface polish grade for the gemstone.
Method for inspecting surface of wafer, device for inspecting surface of wafer, and manufacturing method of electronic component
A method for inspecting a surface of a wafer, includes steps of: irradiating a surface of the wafer with a laser beam having three or more distinct wavelengths; detecting a reflected light from the surface of the wafer when the surface of the wafer is irradiated with the laser beam; and determining whether a foreign matter exists on the surface of the wafer based on reflectances of the surface of the wafer with respect to the laser beam having the three or more distinct wavelengths, wherein the step of determining whether the foreign matter exists includes a step of determining whether the foreign matter is a metal or a non-metal.
Computing progressive failure in materials and structures by integration of digital image correlation with acoustic emission monitoring data
An inventive approach is disclosed to integrate Digital Image Correlation (DIC) with the Acoustic Emission method that may be used for structural health monitoring and assessment of critical structural components in civil, mechanical, and aerospace industries. The inventive approach relies on passively recording acoustic emission across the specimen being tested and activating the DIC cameras automatically to measure deformation on the specimen's surface. The resulting acousto-optic system can be used to determine damage initiation, progressive damage development, identify critical regions and make lifetime predictions of the tested specimen.
