NON-DESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION SYSTEM FOR INSPECTION OF WELD AND BRAZE JOINTS

An inspection probe and system for inspecting a welded or brazed joint includes a housing having an internal cavity and opposed tapered standoffs disposed at a distal end portion of the housing. Distal ends of the opposed tapered standoffs define pivot surfaces, and the opposed tapered standoffs are spaced apart to define a secondary enclosure. A plurality of transducer elements are disposed within the internal cavity of the housing and a primary coupling medium made of a flexible, semi-solid material is secured between the opposed tapered standoffs. A signal processing module is in communication with a data acquisition unit, which is in communication with the transducer elements. The inspection probe is rotated across the joint, data from the transducer elements is communicated to the signal processing module, and reconstructed and corrected images obtained at different angles from the transducer elements are stitched to generate an inspection image.

SYSTEM FOR ULTRASONIC INSPECTION OF RAILROAD SPIKES
20220365033 · 2022-11-17 · ·

A method for detecting breaks or defects in railroad spikes transmits an ultrasonic signal that propagates along the body of the spike and detects the resulting reflected ultrasonic signal. The reflected signal is then analyzed to automatically detect the presence of a break or defect in the spike based on the time delay between the reflected signal and the transmitted signal.

ACOUSTIC COUPLER, ULTRASOUND IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD, AND ULTRASOUND IMAGING DEVICE

Provided is an acoustic coupler for ultrasound imaging that can detect a posture of an ultrasound probe from an image. An acoustic coupler includes: a first layer in contact with an ultrasound probe of an ultrasound imaging device; a second layer in contact with an imaging target; and an intermediate layer made of a material having a high elastic modulus between the first layer and the second layer. The intermediate layer includes a plurality of markers made of a material that reflects an ultrasound wave, at different positions in an ultrasound wave propagation direction, for example, near a boundary between two adjacent layers. The ultrasound imaging device detects the posture of the ultrasound probe based on images of the markers included in an ultrasound image.

COMPRESSIVE SENSING FOR FULL MATRIX CAPTURE
20230098406 · 2023-03-30 ·

Examples of the present subject matter provide techniques for compressive sampling of acoustic data. A probe may sample in a compression mode, such that the entire matrix is not sampled at full-time resolution or spatial resolution. Therefore, the initial amount of data captured by the probe is reduced, allowing for lower density hardware (e.g., fewer analog-to-digital conversion channels or related analog front-end hardware) to be used at a lower data rate.

Ultrasonic measuring unit

The invention relates to an ultrasonic measuring unit for attaching to a measuring instrument. The measuring instrument is designed in such a way that the measuring instrument can be arranged on a movement axis of a machine. When the ultrasonic measuring unit is arranged on the measuring instrument, an ultrasonic measurement can be carried out by means of the ultrasonic measuring unit. The ultrasonic measuring unit comprises a tubular sleeve and an elastic carrier element. The tubular sleeve surrounds the elastic carrier element. The elastic carrier element consists of a material that conducts ultrasonic waves. At a first end of the tubular sleeve, the elastic carrier element protrudes beyond an outer edge of the tubular sleeve. The tubular sleeve and the elastic carrier element are intended to contact, in particular directly, the surface to be measured, during a probing process of the measuring instrument.
