SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR TESTING A STRUCTURE USING LASER ULTRASOUND

A method for testing a structure includes steps of: identifying a three-dimensional position of a surface of the structure relative to a reference frame; transmitting laser light from an output of a transmitter onto the surface of the structure to form ultrasonic waves in the structure and to detect a response to the ultrasonic waves; based on the three-dimensional position of the surface, moving the laser light over the structure along a scan path so that the output of the transmitter is located at a constant offset distance from the surface and that the laser light, transmitted from the output of the transmitter, is directed onto the surface at a constant angle of projection; and based on the response to the ultrasonic waves, determining whether an inconsistency is present in the structure.

According to an embodiment, a structure evaluation system has a plurality of sensors, a signal processor, and an evaluator. The sensors detect an elastic wave generated from a structure. The signal processor acquires a reliability from a source of the elastic wave to the plurality of sensors by performing signal processing on the elastic wave detected by the plurality of sensors. The evaluator evaluates the soundness of the structure on the basis of the acquired reliability.

PART EVALUATION BASED UPON SYSTEM NATURAL FREQUENCY

A part evaluation tool is disclosed and which may be used to assess a part-under-test for use in a system. A plurality of natural frequencies for a system operated at a first steady-state operational are identified. A vibrational response of a part-under-test is acquired, and resonance frequencies within this vibrational response are identified. Resonance frequencies of the part-under-test are compared with the identified natural frequencies for purposes of classifying the part as compliant (e.g., suitable for use in the system) or non-compliant (e.g., not suitable for use in the system).

STRUCTURE EVALUATION SYSTEM, STRUCTURE EVALUATION APPARATUS, AND STRUCTURE EVALUATION METHOD

According to an embodiment, a structure evaluation system includes a plurality of sensors, a position locator, a velocity calculator, and an evaluator. The sensors detect an elastic wave generated from a structure. The position locator derives a wave source distribution of the elastic waves generated from the structure, on the basis of the elastic waves. The velocity calculator derives a propagation velocity of the elastic wave generated from the structure, on the basis of the elastic waves. The evaluator evaluates the soundness of the structure on the basis of the wave source distribution and the propagation velocity of the elastic waves.

A ground engaging member that engages a work material to dig into the work material includes a member body extending from a leading end to a trailing end, the member body having an internal surface defining a cavity therein, the cavity having a concavity that faces away from the leading end along a longitudinal direction, the longitudinal direction extending from the leading end to the trailing end; and a first wear sensing body embedded in the member body between the cavity and the leading end along the longitudinal direction. The member body is fabricated from a ground engaging tool (GET) body material having a GET body material density. The first wear sensing body is fabricated from a wear sensing body material having a wear sensing body material density that is not equal to the GET body material density.

DETECTION OF KISS BONDS WITHIN COMPOSITE COMPONENTS

Systems and methods for detecting a kiss bond in a composite component are provided. Using reflected ultrasound data representative of reflected ultrasound energy from the composite component, a first threshold amplitude value between 2% and 5% higher than a predetermined baseline noise amplitude value of expected material noise in the reflected ultrasound energy from the composite component, and a second threshold amplitude value higher than the first threshold amplitude value, one or more occurrences of an amplitude of the reflected ultrasound energy exceeding the threshold amplitude value and less than the second threshold amplitude value are identified. The kiss bond is detected in the composite component based on the identified one or more occurrences of the amplitude of the reflected ultrasound energy.
