There are provided a device for removing partial discharge noise and a method of diagnosing the same. The device includes a noise removing device configured to remove noise of a partial discharge signal using a reaction rate difference of signals when the partial discharge signal is generated, and output a signal in which noise is removed, a laser module configured to output a laser beam to a surface of a power device when the partial discharge signal is generated and extract sound wave and vibration data from a reflection signal of the laser beam, a correlation analyzing unit configured to compare the partial discharge signal in which noise is removed input through a sensor connecting unit and the sound wave and vibration data extracted through the laser module, and analyze a correlation, and a partial discharge diagnostic unit configured to perform partial discharge diagnosis on a signal that matches the partial discharge signal in which noise is removed with at least one of a generation cycle, a time, and a phase of the sound wave and vibration data based on a result of correlation analysis of the correlation analyzing unit.

Operating parameters are selected for inspecting a structure. Selecting the operating parameters includes exciting broadband ultrasonic guided waves in a multilayered structure, acquiring data corresponding to the sensed broadband ultrasonic guided waves in the multilayered structure, selecting one or more narrow frequency bands based on the acquired data, and inspecting the multilayered structure using ultrasonic guided waves in the one or more narrow frequency bands. In some examples, the data is acquired by an inspection tool capable of sensing the broadband ultrasonic guided waves in the multilayered structure.

The relationship is further based on sets of operation data previously obtained for mechanical systems of the group. Each set of operation data indicates a previous state of operation of a mechanical system. Each of the previous states of operation is associated with at least one of the previously obtained sets of vibration-related data.

Described herein are Compressive Sensing algorithms developed for automated reduction of NDE/SHM data from pitch-catch ultrasonic guided waves as well as a methodology using Compressive Sensing at two stages in the data acquisition and analysis process to detect damage: (1) temporally undersampled sensor signals from (2) spatially undersampled sensor arrays, resulting in faster data acquisition and reduced data sets without any loss in damage detection ability.
