METHODS FOR DETECTING COLORECTAL CANCER
20170298448 · 2017-10-19 ·

A method of detecting a predisposition to, or the incidence of, colorectal cancer in a fecal sample comprises, in a first step (a), detecting the presence of blood in the fecal sample, wherein detection of the presence of blood is indicative of a predisposition to, or the incidence of, colorectal cancer. The method additionally comprises, in second step (b), detecting an epigenetic modification in the DNA contained within the fecal sample, wherein detection of the epigenetic modification is indicative of a predisposition to, or the incidence of, colorectal cancer. Based upon a positive result obtained in either (a) or (b) or in both (a) and (b) a predisposition to, or the incidence of, colorectal cancer is detected. Related methods and kits involve detecting an epigenetic modification in a number of specific genes.

Systems and methods to improve organ or tissue function and organ or tissue transplant longevity

The present invention provides for systems and methods for inhaled CO therapy to prevent, attenuate, or delay processes that accelerate the loss of organ or tissue function, thereby increasing the lifespan of transplanted organs or tissues, or slowing the decline of native organs or tissues, or delaying the need for replacement of diseased native organs with organ transplants. Such biological processes that are prevented, attenuated, or delayed include chronic persistent inflammation, fibrosis, scarring, as well as immunologic or autoimmune attack.

The invention is to devices and methods for rapid determination of analytes in liquid samples. The devices and methods incorporate a sample dilution feature and multiple immunosensors for performing a ratiometric immunoassay on a first analyte and a second analyte, for example, hemoglobin and hemoglobin A1c or albumin and glycosylated albumin. The devices are preferably capable of being used in the point-of-care diagnostic field.

Visually-Based Diagnostic Device for Automatic Determination of a Physiologic Level Associated with a Sample

Diagnostic devices; systems, methods and computer-readable media store instructions related to determining hemoglobin information using those devices. The methods may include processing a captured image of the reservoir and/or device and the device information to determine color information for the solution and the scale, the color information including one or more color attributes; adjusting the color information for the solution based on the color information for the scale; and determining hemoglobin information (e.g., hemoglobin level, disease state and/or calculated hematocrit) based on the adjusted color information and a stored profile information associated with the device information.

Method and apparatus for determining markers of health by analysis of blood

Biomarkers of high blood pressure are measured to identify high blood pressure of the subject based on one or more biomarkers. In many embodiments, the response of the biomarker to blood pressure occurs over the course of at least an hour, such that the high blood pressure identification is based on a cumulative effect of physiology of the subject over a period of time. The methods and apparatus of identifying high blood pressure with biomarkers have the advantage of providing improved treatment of the subject, as the identified biomarker can be related to an effect of the high blood pressure on the subject, such as a biomarker corresponding to central blood pressure. The sample can be subjected to increases in one or more of pressure or temperatures, and changes in the blood sample measured over time.

Methods, devices, and reagents are described for performing ratiometric assays for hemoglobin A1c. The methods involve a direct ratio determination between Hb A1c and normalized total hemoglobin utilizing a saturating amount of hemoglobin so that Hb A1c binds proportionately to a substrate. In some applications, the assay utilizes a proximity label system for signal generation and/or labeled magnetic beads. The methods can be configured as homogeneous or heterogeneous assays.
