Method and Device for Determining a Rotational Speed of an Object
In some embodiments, a device for determining a speed of rotation of an object includes a visualization device fastened to the object. A lighting device is configured to light the visualization device by light pulses of adjustable frequency. An adjustment device is configured to adjust a frequency of the light pulses so that the visualization device appears immobile when the object is in rotation. A processor is configured to determine the speed of rotation based on the adjusted frequency.

Laser strobe tachometer
A laser strobe tachometer combines a strobe light with a laser speed sensor. The ability of the laser sensor to accurately determine machine speed enables a synchronous strobe rate to be determined without user intervention. Having locked onto the turning speed, the stroboscope can freeze the motion of the shaft, thereby allowing an operator to observe locations, such as on a keyway, flat or screw head, for the optimum placement of the laser spot to generate a once-per-revolution tachometer pulse.

Stroboscope with integral optical reflective sensor used as a flash trigger
A stroboscope with an integral optical reflective sensor, which can be removable or fixed, contains a light emitting source, a light sensitive receiver, a pulse conditioning circuit, a stroboscope circuit, a blanking circuit, and a stroboscope light source. The light emitting source projects a light beam to a reflective target. The reflected light beam from the reflective target is detected by the light sensitive receiver. The pulse conditioning circuit generates a set of electrical pulses coincident with the reflected light beam which are sent to the stroboscope circuit. Depending on the signal received by the stroboscope circuit, the stroboscope light source is triggered. The blanking circuit prevents false triggering of the stroboscope light source by introducing a time delay. The time delay is applied when the stroboscope light source is switched on and for a finite time after the stroboscope light source is switch off.
