LUMINAIRE HAVING A BEACON AND A DIRECTIONAL ANTENNA

An apparatus, method, and system, the apparatus including a housing; a light source, disposed in the housing, including at least one source of illumination; a radio frequency (RF) transmitter located on or in the housing; and at least one directional radiating element at least partially enclosed by the housing and coupled to RF transmitter, the at least one directional radiating element directing a RF signal transmitted by the RF transmitter in a predetermined direction away from the housing.

ELECTRONIC IDENTIFICATION, LOCATION TRACKING, COMMUNICATION & NOTIFICATION SYSTEM WITH BEACON CLUSTERING
20170111770 · 2017-04-20 ·

A system and method for identifying a customer's location at a business and provide notification to a company representative upon arrival of the customer at the business location. Real-time location determinations for the customer and customer location tracking can be provided. One or more wireless beacons communicate with the customer's electronic device. The beacons provide the system with real-time data about the customer's whereabouts, allowing for the confirmation and tracking of the customer at the location. A first non-limiting example of use, include a company that provides food and beverage allowing the customer to place an order for food and beverages on their electronic device and having the order delivered to the person at their current location as determined by the system. Another non-limiting example includes a company using the notification system to have assigned staff members notified of the customer's arrival.

Method and system for reporting and monitoring location-related activities of mobile devices

This application relates to reporting and monitoring a location of a mobile device. Disclosed is an attendance recording service in which when an employee requests attendance recording using a mobile application installed in a smartphone, the smartphone communicates with a server and records clock-in and clock-out of the employee. When the employee selects an attendance recording request button from the mobile application, an analysis is made as to whether the employee is positioned in a workplace, and clock-in or clock-out of the employee is recorded only when it is determined that the employee is positioned in the workplace, thereby maintaining reliable attendance recording.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR IMPLEMENTING AND ENFORCING A NO-FLY ZONE OR PROHIBITIVE ZONE FOR DRONES AND UNMANNED VEHICLES
20170103659 · 2017-04-13 ·

In certain areas, if a drone flies into them, may cause danger to people or facilities within the area. In such areas no-fly zones need to be implemented and enforced. A no-fly zone can be indicated or identified by specially transmitted radio signals in or around the no-fly zone. No-fly zones can also be defined using geo-fence data that is provided to a drone. Once a drone detects itself within a no-fly zone, will disable the control from its original operator or from its pre-programmed flying plan at least in part, and be made harmless.

A method and apparatus for scanning, by an asset tag manager during a scanning window, for wireless broadcasts from beacon devices. The method further filters the wireless broadcasts to generate a subset of the wireless broadcasts. The method continues by identifying, within the subset of the wireless broadcasts, a first wireless broadcast with a first data packet in view of an indication that a first beacon device is within a specified distance from the asset tag manager. The method proceeds by parsing the first data packet to locate a first beacon identifier associated with a first beacon device. The method also creates a second data packet with the first beacon identifier and an asset tag identifier associated with the asset. The method transmits a second wireless broadcast comprising the second data packet, the second wireless broadcast to be received by a hub.

An apparatus for communicating with wireless devices is described. The apparatus in one form includes a shrouded antenna arrangement (700) which is arranged to produce a radiated field forming a pre-determined detection zone having a boundary, spaced apart from the arrangement. Outside of the boundary the energy of the radiated field is below a pre-determined cut-off threshold. The shrouded antenna arrangement (700) in one form comprises an antenna (705) within an RFAM shroud (710). The RFAM shroud (710) may then have an absorption profile that varies around the antenna to form the detection zone.

Smart beacon data security

A secure beacon-based system includes beacons that may generate dynamic beacon identifiers. A mobile device application may send a request to an application server, including a dynamic beacon identifier. The application server can locally compute the dynamic beacon identifier and compare it to the received beacon identifier to validate the request and determine whether to respond to the request.
