Various communication systems may benefit from improved positioning technology. For example, communication systems may benefit from taking into account radio signal capabilities of the user equipment when determining the position of the user equipment. A method may include sending a request from a network entity to a user equipment. The method may also include receiving a response to the request from the user equipment. The response may include information about radio signal capabilities of the user equipment. In addition, the method may include determining location assistance data based on the received radio signal capabilities.

Directional pruning of transmitters to improve position determination

Described are systems and methods for estimating a position of receiver using ranging signals from different regions in a network of transmitters. In some embodiments, each ranging signal that exceeds a quality criterion is assigned to one of several defined regions based on a characteristic of that ranging signal. A maximum number of ranging signals per region may be selected and used during trilateration.

PROVIDING ESTIMATED ACCURACY OF MOBILE STATION SYNCHRONIZATION AND MOBILE STATION TRANSMISSION OFFSET TO THE NETWORK

A mobile station (MS), a base station subsystem (BSS), and various methods are described herein that enable a positioning node (e.g., Serving Mobile Location Center (SMLC)) to improve the accuracy of estimating a position of the mobile station.

Device and method for calculating golf statistics

A location-aware device includes a position determination sensor that determines a position of the location-aware device. A receiver receives, from a tag coupled to a golf club, data corresponding to an output of a sensor included in the tag. A processor associates the data received from the tag with the determined position, and processes the data received from the tag to determine whether to register a golf shot as having occurred at the determined position. A memory stores a golf shot determined to be registered by the processor along with the determined position.

MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR FINGERPRINTING POSITIONING

A system, computer software and method for collecting, in addition to position data, additional positioning data in a user terminal served by a communication network. The method includes initiating, by generating a message within the user terminal, collection of the positioning data, where the positioning data includes information based on which a physical location of the user terminal is determined; measuring, by the user terminal, at least one parameter related to the physical location of the user terminal in response to the message; producing, within the user terminal, measurement reports that include the at least one parameter; selecting, within the user terminal, one or more measurement reports that were generated in response to the message generated by the user terminal; reporting the selected one or more measurement reports to an interface within the user terminal; and transmitting, from the interface, the reported one or more measurement reports to an external server or to the communication network.

POSITIONING SIGNAL RECEIVER, POSITIONING SYSTEM AND POSITIONING METHOD OF THE SAME

A positioning signal receiver that includes an electromagnetic wave receiver, a mechanical wave receiver and a processing circuit is provided. The electromagnetic wave receiver receives electromagnetic wave signals for indicating positions of positioning signal transmitters and for triggering the positioning signal transmitters to generate mechanical wave signals. The mechanical wave receiver receives the mechanical wave signals. The processing circuit is coupled to the electromagnetic wave receiver and the mechanical wave receiver and determines the positions of the positioning signal transmitters according to the first electromagnetic wave signals, determines signal transmission times of the mechanical wave signals and determines distances each between one of the positioning signal transmitters and the positioning signal receiver according to the signal transmission times. The processing circuit determines a position of the positioning signal receiver according to the distances and the positions of the positioning signal transmitters.

Gaining a time signal from a radio signal such as GPS, an ultra-wide band constellation can be synchronized. While the entirety of the constellation is synchronized to a nanosecond level of accuracy, local subsets of ultra-wide band nodes can establish even finer degrees of synchronization resulting in more accurate positional determination. These synchronization signals can be propagated to other nodes that are denied or incapable of receiving synchronizing radio (GPS) signals. Moreover, in cases in which a plurality of UPN nodes is unavailable to accurately determine an objects position, available UPN nodes can be combined with GPS pseudo ranges to achieve positional determination.

Method and apparatus for transmitting indoor context information

The subject matter disclosed herein relates to a system and method for determining indoor context information relating to a location of a mobile device. Indoor context information may be utilized by a mobile device or a network element to obtain an estimate of a location of the mobile device within an indoor environment.

System and methods of deploying location tracking tags are provided. A device receives: identifiers of a plurality of tags fixed at locations in a physical space, each of the plurality of tags configured to broadcast: a respective identifier; and identifiers of respective neighboring tags of each of the plurality of tags. The device further receives respective locations of a subset of the plurality of tags. The device determines remaining respective locations of the plurality of tags not in the subset from: the respective locations of the plurality of tags in the subset and the identifiers of respective neighboring tags of each of the plurality of tags. The device can populate a memory and/or a database with the remaining respective locations of the plurality of tags not in the subset for use by a location tracking server.
