The mobile device may access the power mode database based on a current location and requested operating mode, as well as contextual information, to obtain the actual operating mode to be used for positioning at the location.

A system and corresponding method sense an environment. The system comprises a wireless transmitter device that transmits a wireless signal through the environment. The system further comprises a plurality of wireless receivers that each 1) receive the wireless signal at a distinct location within the environment via at least one respective antenna and 2) generate a channel state information (CSI) packet indicating a state of a wireless communications channel associated with the wireless signal. The system still further comprises a computing device and classifier. The computing device processes the CSI packets from the plurality of wireless receivers and generates a CSI dataset as a function of the CSI packets processed. The classifier determines at least one class for the CSI dataset. The system and corresponding method improve robustness of sensing operations, such as robustness of Wi-Fi sensing operations to noise and interference.

Estimating one or more characteristics of a communications channel

Disclosed are Methods and apparatuses for estimating one or more characteristics of the communications channel. The method comprises receiving a first wireless signal transmitted by a transmitter at a first set of frequencies in a first time slot; and receiving a second wireless signal transmitted by the transmitter at a second set of frequencies in a second time slot. The second set of frequencies partially overlaps with the first set of frequencies and the second time slot is different from the first time slot. The method further comprises jointly processing the first wireless signal and the second wireless signal to estimate the one or more characteristics of the communications channel. Corresponding apparatuses are configured to implement the methods.

Embodiments are disclosed for localization of vehicles using beacons. In an embodiment, a method comprises: determining, using at least one processor of a vehicle, that the vehicle has lost external signals (or is receiving degraded external signals) that are used for estimating a position of the vehicle; determining, using the at least one processor, a set of mobile beacons that are available to assist in estimating the position of the vehicle; receiving, using a communication device of the vehicle, broadcast signals from the set of mobile beacons, the broadcast signals including localization data for the set of mobile beacons; selecting, using the at least one processor, a subset of localization data from the set of mobile beacons for assisting in the position estimation of the vehicle; and estimating, using the at least one processor, the position of the vehicle using the subset of localization data.

The plurality of communication channels may include at least two channels for performing data exchange through different types of wireless communication.
