METHOD AND DIRECTION FINDING SYSTEM FOR LOCALIZING A NEAR VERTICAL INCIDENCE SKYWAVE EMITTER
20220163617 · 2022-05-26 · ·

A method of localizing a near vertical incidence skywave emitter. At a first site a first elevation angle of an incoming signal issued by the near vertical incidence skywave emitter is measured. At a second site a second elevation angle of an incoming signal issued by the near vertical incidence skywave emitter is measured, wherein the second site is different to the first site. The first elevation angle measured and the second elevation angle measured are converted into a first length and a second length respectively, which represent the distance between the respective site and the estimated location of the near vertical incidence skywave emitter. The respective length is processed, thereby generating an estimated area of the near vertical incidence skywave emitter for each of the different sites such that at least two different estimated areas are generated. The estimated areas for each site are superimposed, thereby obtaining an area of interest encompassing the estimated location of the near vertical incidence skywave emitter. Further, a direction finding system is described.

Techniques and apparatuses are described for determining a position of user equipment by using adaptive phase-changing devices. In aspects, a base station transmits wireless signals for a UE toward respective reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) of adaptive phase-changing devices. The APDs may direct reflections of the wireless signals in a direction, such as toward the UE, based on a configuration of the RIS of the APD. The base station receives, from the UE via a wireless connection identifiers of the reflections of the wireless signals that are received by the UE. In some cases, the base station also receives a signal quality parameter associated with the reflection reaching the UE. The base station determines angular information based on the respective identifiers and/or signal quality parameters of the reflections. Based on the angular information and known positions of the APDs, the base station determines a position of the UE.

Systems, apparatuses, and methods for determining locations of wireless nodes in a network architecture are disclosed herein. In one example, a system for localization of nodes in a wireless network architecture, comprises a wireless node having a wireless device with one or more processing units and RF circuitry for transmitting and receiving communications in the wireless network architecture; and a plurality of wireless sensor nodes having a wireless device with a transmitter and a receiver to enable bi-directional communications with the wireless node in the wireless network architecture. One or more processing units of the wireless node are configured to execute instructions to determine ranging data including a set of possible ranges between the wireless node and the plurality of wireless sensor nodes having unknown locations, and to associate a set of relative locations within an environment of the wireless network architecture with the wireless node and the plurality of wireless sensor nodes.

Positioning with relays

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A position of a user equipment (UE) may be determined when communications between the UE and a base station are routed through a relay node. For example, the UE 115 may determine whether communications are received from the base station or the relay node based on positioning assistance data that contains positioning-related information about different base stations and relay nodes in the system. The UE may then transmit a position metric based on this determination, where a location server uses this position metric for determining the location of the UE. Additionally or alternatively, the location server or base station may use the positioning assistance data to determine whether an uplink transmission is received directly from the UE or via the relay node and may generate a position metric that the location server uses for determining the location of the UE.

Positioning, navigation, timing, ranging, or beacon transmission system apparatus which utilizes and exploits—relayed, delayed, or virtual timing marker transmissions of GPS, GPS alternative, GNSS, PNT, electronic, optic, acoustic, or similar signals

Traditional “low-to-high waveform change” timing markers, in navigation or GPS signals, can be easily naturally or maliciously altered and require unshareable, high-resolution, high-capacity channels, often not government available. Whereas, message text format methods include proven error correction, redundancy, encryption, jam-resistance, concealability, spoof-resistance, multiuser, delayable messaging, channel efficiency, and downstream authentication. Herein, “virtual timing markers” exploit message format strengths and more. Because many navigating platforms also communicate voice, messages, or data, platforms and multiuser messages can simultaneously and unintrusively share the same transmission signal, which reduces onboard hardware, needed channel capacity, radio frequencies, costs, and infrastructure. FAA mandated, airliner collision avoidance broadcasts of their GPS location can unintrusively commingle navigation messages with aforementioned strengths as precise derivative GPS timing markers on existing, prolific broadcasts having 1000× greater power levels. “Relayed transmission pathways” can eliminate cumbersome traditional nanosecond synchronization of navigation transmitters or exploit inclusion of happenstance neighborhood transmitters. Additional features.

This application provides a positioning method and a communication apparatus. When reporting, to a network device, measurement information of a plurality of paths that is obtained through positioning measurement, a terminal device associates each path with a positioning reference signal PRS resource identifier or related information of a beam (for example, an angle of a transmit beam or a direction of the transmit beam) corresponding to the PRS resource identifier. While learning of the measurement information of each path, the network device can further learn of information about a beam corresponding to the path. This helps the network device improve positioning accuracy.

Angle of arrival (AOA) positioning method and system for positional finding and tracking objects using reduced attenuation RF technology

Systems and methods for determining user equipment (UE) locations within a wireless network using reference signals of the wireless network are described. The disclosed systems and methods utilize a plurality of in-phase and quadrature (I/Q) samples generated from signals provided by receive channels associated with two or more antennas of the wireless system. Based on received reference signal parameters the reference signal within the signals from each receive channel among the receive channels is identified. Based on the identified reference signal from each receive channel, an angle of arrival between a baseline of the two or more antennas and incident energy from the UE to the two or more antennas is determined. That angle of arrival is then used to calculate the location of the UE. The angle of arrival may be a horizontal angle of arrival and/or a vertical angle of arrival.
