An ultrasonic device includes: a substrate provided with a first opening and a second opening; a support film that is provided on the substrate and blocks the first opening and the second opening; a transmitting piezoelectric film that is provided at a position of the support film which overlaps the first opening when viewed in a thickness direction of the substrate, and that is interposed between a pair of electrodes in the thickness direction of the substrate; and a receiving piezoelectric film that is provided at a position of the support film which overlaps the second opening when viewed in the thickness direction of the substrate, and that is interposed between a pair of electrodes in the thickness direction of the substrate. In the thickness direction of the substrate, a thickness dimension of the transmitting piezoelectric film is larger than a thickness dimension of the receiving piezoelectric film.

An outside sensor unit includes an outside sensor, a main bracket, a support bracket, a rotation device, and a position adjustment device. The outside sensor detects the outside of a vehicle. The main bracket is attached to a vehicle body. The support bracket supports the outside sensor and is attached to the main bracket. The rotation device has a rotation axis line which is substantially parallel to a roll axis of the vehicle and connects the support bracket and the main bracket together rotatably around the rotation axis line. The position adjustment device is capable of adjusting the relative rotation position between the support bracket and the main bracket around the rotation axis line.

A sensor attachment is used in securing an ultrasonic sensor to a plate-like vehicle body member. The ultrasonic sensor is equipped with a cylindrical ultrasonic microphone extending in an axial direction perpendicular to a center axis line. The sensor attachment includes a cylinder which is fit in a through-hole in the vehicle body member and surrounds the ultrasonic microphone in a vehicle-mounted state where the ultrasonic sensor is mounted in the vehicle body member. The cylinder includes a through-hole facing portion which faces an inner surface of the through- hole in proximity thereto in a radial direction perpendicular to the center axis line in the vehicle- mounted state. The through-hole facing portion is designed to have a contact surface-decreasing structure which minimizes an area of contact with the inner surface of the through-hole.

An acoustic lens to steer an acoustic beam includes a first structure, a second structure spaced from the first structure, an array of projections disposed between the first and second structures, each projection of the array of projections extending from the first structure toward the second structure to define a respective gap between the projection and the second structure, and an actuator configured to move the first structure, the second structure, or the array of projections for collective adjustment of the respective gaps of the array of projections. Each projection is configured to define one or more respective unit cells, each unit cell having a sub-wavelength size relative to the acoustic beam to establish an effective refractive index profile for the acoustic beam between the first and second structures. The actuator is configured such that the collective adjustment of the respective gaps varies across the array of projections to spatially modify the effective refractive index profile to steer the acoustic beam.

Sidescan sonar imaging system

Provided are a sonar system and transducer assembly for producing a 3D image of an underwater environment. The sonar system may include a housing mountable to a watercraft having a transmit transducer that may transmit sonar pulses into the water. The system may include at least one sidescan transducer array in the housing that receives first and second sonar returns with first and second transducer elements and converts the first and second returns into first and second sonar return data. A sonar signal processor may then generate a 3D mesh data using the first and second sonar return data and at least a predetermined distance between the transducer elements. An associated method of using the sonar system is also provided.
