Positioning with interleaved VLC signals
Techniques for determining a position of a mobile device using visible light communication signals are provided. An example device includes memory and a processor configured to in response to a determination that at least one first image of a plurality of images stored in the memory is of a modulated light signal transmitted by a light source and comprising coded information, determine a spatial location of a reference point of the light source based on the coded information, in response to a determination that at least one second image of the plurality of images is of an unmodulated light signal emanating from the light source, determine an image location of the reference point of the light source in the at least one second image, and determine a position of the mobile wireless communication device based on the image location of the reference point and the spatial location of the reference point.
Positioning in indoor locations and other GPS-denied environments
Methods for: (1) extracting Doppler/velocity measurements; (2) estimating relative clock bias errors; (3) determining range and velocity estimates with associated confidences; and (4) extracting range estimates using channel estimation are disclosed. These methods can be used separately or combined to improve positioning solutions obtained by positioning systems used in indoor locations and other GPS-denied environments.
Trash can monitoring systems and methods
Some embodiments provide methods and systems of monitoring trash cans. A central computer system of a shopping facility identifies a first motorized transport unit and a second motorized transport unit; communicates routing instructions based on a mapping of the shopping facility to each of the first and second motorized transport units directing the first and second motorized transport units to a trash can receptacle, wherein the second motorized transport unit transports a replacement second trash can; communicates trash can removal instruction to the first motorized transport unit to cause the first motorized transport unit to remove the first trash can from the trash can receptacle; and communicates a trash can replacement instruction to the second motorized transport unit to cause the second motorized transport unit to place the second trash can into the trash can receptacle in place of the first trash can.
Light-based fiducial communication
Techniques and architecture are disclosed for navigating an area with multi-panel luminaires configured to display fiducial patterns. In an embodiment, a system includes a plurality of luminaires located in an area and configured to display one or more fiducial patterns recognizable by a mobile computing device. The luminaire includes a plurality of panels, each panel associated with one or more solid-state light sources. The luminaire also includes at least one driver configured to control the light sources to transmit light through the plurality of panels at varying light intensities to display a fiducial pattern and configured to detect errors in the display of the fiducial pattern.
Indoor positioning system for fireman
An indoor positioning system for fireman includes: a wireless tag reading device, worn or carried by a fireman; and a plurality of wireless tags, disposed in a plurality of positioning points defined in an indoor space and each of the wireless tags having a memory for storing a location data, where each of the location data is corresponding to one of the plurality of positioning points; when in use, the wireless tag reading device is coupled with at least one of the plurality of wireless tags within a sensing range via a wireless means, so that at least one of the location data corresponding to at least one positioning point defined in the indoor space is obtained.
System and method for enabling determination of a position of a receiver within a space
A method and system for enabling the determination of a position of a receiver within a space includes transmitting a beacon signal from each of a plurality of beacon devices located at different locations within the space. The beacon signal transmitted from each beacon device has a unique information component and may have a unique frequency pattern of multiple frequencies. Each beacon signal can be distinguishable from the beacon signals transmitted from any other of the beacon devices based on the combination of its unique information component and its unique frequency pattern. The beacon signals are received at a receiver. At the receiver, for each beacon signal of a working subset, time-delay information of the received beacon signal is determined and multilateration is applied to determine the position of the receiver based on the location of each beacon device of the working subset.
Shopping space route guidance systems, devices and methods
System, method, and apparatus for providing route guidance to a customer in a shopping facility space are provided. A system for providing route guidance comprises a communication device configured to communicate with a user interface device, a store map database storing location information for a plurality of items available for purchase in the retail space, and a control circuit coupled to the communication device and the store map database. The control circuit is configured to receive a list of items for purchase from a user associated with the user interface device via the communication device, retrieve location information associated with each item of the list of items for purchase from the store map database, determine a route based on at least one user entered route preference and the location information associated with each item of the list of items for purchase, and provide the route to the user interface device.
SYSTEMS, DEVICES AND METHODS OF CONTROLLING MOTORIZED TRANSPORT UNITS IN A RETAIL SHOPPING FACILITY
Some embodiments include apparatuses to fulfill customer orders comprising a motorized transport unit; a product pick unit (PPU) that cooperate with the motorized transport unit; a wireless communication network; and a central computer system configured to communicate with the multiple motorized transport units and the plurality of product pick units, and comprises a control circuit and memory storing instructions executed to cause the control circuit to: communicate an instruction to the motorized transport unit and direct the motorized transport unit to transport the product pick unit to a determined first location within the shopping facility proximate to where a first product having been ordered is located; and communicate an instruction to the product pick unit cooperated with the motorized transport unit and direct the product pick unit to retrieve the first product.
APPARATUS AND METHOD OF OBTAINING LOCATION INFORMATION OF A MOTORIZED TRANSPORT UNIT
Methods and apparatuses are provided, some apparatuses comprise: a location controller separate from a motorized transport unit, comprising: a transceiver configured to receive communications from the motorized transport unit; a control circuit; a memory storing computer instructions that when executed by the control circuit cause the control circuit to perform the steps of: obtain, from the communications, a unique light source identifier of a light source detected by the motorized transport unit, and relative distance information determined by the motorized transport unit through an optical measurement; process the at least one unique light source identifier and the relative distance information relative to a mapping of the shopping facility; and determine, in response to the processing, a location of the motorized transport unit within the shopping facility as a function of the at least one unique light source identifier and the relative distance information.
SHOPPING FACILITY ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS, DEVICES, AND METHODS TO FACILITATE RETURNING ITEMS TO THEIR RESPECTIVE DEPARTMENTS
A central computer system directs a motorized transport unit through a retail shopping facility to a particular mobile item container having at least one item disposed therein, that item being designated for return to a particular department within the retail shopping facility such that this item can then again be presented for sale. After causing that motorized transport unit to physically attach to this mobile item container, the central computer system then directs that motorized transport unit through the retail shopping facility with the attached particular mobile item container to the one or more departments to which the item or items are to be so returned.
