Colorimetric radiation detector

A low cost, rapid, flexible radiation detector uses inorganic metal halide precursors and dyes that respond to self-quenching hybrid scintillation. Remote, high-contrast, laser sensing can be used to determine when exposure of the detector to radiation occurs (even temporally).

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR QUANTITATIVE DOSIMETRY OF PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY IN SKIN

While clinical treatment of actinic keratosis by photodynamic therapy (PDT) is widely practiced, there is well-known variability in response, primarily caused by heterogeneous accumulation and PDT-induced photobleaching of the photosensitizer protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) between patients and between lesions. One of the key factors in regularizing this treatment would be to have an easily accessible indicator of PpIX present in the lesions at the time of light delivery. Described herein, a smartphone-based fluorescence imager was developed to allow simple quantitative photography of the lesions and their PpIX levels.

Real-time X-ray dosimetry sensing in intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT). According to one aspect, a treatment head comprises at least one X-ray component configured to facilitate generation of therapeutic radiation in the X-ray wavelength range. A resilient balloon is disposed over the treatment head and configured for receiving therein a fluid to facilitate X-ray treatment of a tumor cavity. A plurality of X-ray sensing elements is disposed at a plurality of locations distributed on the interior or exterior of the resilient balloon and configured for sensing X-ray radiation emanating from the treatment head. A control system is provided that is responsive to data received from the X-ray sensing elements to determine a magnitude of X-ray radiation detected at each of the X-ray sensing elements.

Devices and methods for detecting radiation-induced cell damage by directly measuring DNA damage resulting from delivered radiation exposure is disclosed herein. The device can measure the rate of DNA double-strand break, which is the dominant factor for radiation induced cell damage. This approach enables more accurate measurements as compared to current exposure-based dosimetry. In embodiments, the device is comprised of magnetic streptavidin beads and strands of DNA configured with a biotin on one end and fluorescein on the other.

Image plate calibration system

A calibration system for an image plate used to detect high-energy particles produced by a radioisotope includes a casing and an image plate holder disposed at least partially inside the casing. The image plate is retained by the image plate holder inside the casing. A calibration source generates energy inside the casing to prepare the image plate for detection.

RADIATION MONITOR

A screw compressor includes a screw rotor, a casing, and a fluid supply portion to supply fluid in a membrane form into a compression chamber in the casing. The screw rotor has a male and female rotors. A male bore covering the male rotor and a female bore covering the female rotor are formed on the inner surface of the casing. An intersection line, on a higher pressure side, of the male and female bores is defined as a compression cusp. In a bore development view, a trajectory made by the first intersection of an extension line of a female lobe ridge and a male lobe ridge being moved, along with the rotation of the male and female rotors, is defined as a trajectory line. An opening of the fluid supply section to the compression chamber is positioned between the compression cusp and the trajectory line.
