SONOBUOY VOLUMETRIC ARRAY DEPLOYMENT MODULE

A deployment module according to the present application enables both compact stowage of a sensor array and expansion of the sensor array into a three-dimensional volumetric array shape that enables improved directionality of the sensors during operation. The deployment module includes a support shell that is configured to retain a cable of the sensor array separately from sensors of the sensor array and an expandable deployment body formed of a superelastic shape memory alloy that uses superelasticity and stored energy for deployment of the sensor array. During deployment, the deployment body is removed from the support shell and the sensors are subsequently pulled out of the support shell. The deployment body then expands and holds the cable to retain the three-dimensional volumetric shape of the deployed array.

DRA DAS system

Disclosed is a system and method for improving the performance of downhole Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) systems by simultaneous use of co-propagating and counter-propagating Distributed Raman Amplification (DRA). It uses a surface DRA system with a surface DAS system to combine their laser sources where the distal end of the downhole sensing fiber use uses a Wavelength Division Multiplexer (WDM) to optically split the DRA and DAS signals onto two optical fibers. The DAS fiber/signal is terminated with a low reflectance termination to minimize a potential back reflection whereas the DRA fiber is terminated with a high reflectance termination causing all the light to reflect back up the sensing fiber. This arrangement allows for simultaneous co and counter-propagating DRA of the DAS signals, both the transmitted pulse and the back scattered light, thus creating the maximum amount of gain possible.

METHOD FOR IMPROVING 2D SEISMIC ACQUISITION

The present invention pertains to the fields of geology and geophysics, is designed for use for onshore seismic acquisition. The method involves distributing and arranging the elements used in the acquisition of two-dimensional seismic data from dynamite sources, enabling imaging quality to be improved. The use of sources of dynamite with single charges and variable weight at each shot point results in the generation of seismic waves with variable energy that provide reflections with complementary frequency and amplitudes content for use in the geophysical imaging of geological features. The stacking of this incremental content generated by charges of variable weights results in a significant improvement in the resolution of the processed seismic data on both the continuity of stratigraphic reflectors and existing geological framework.
