A screening device detachably joins with furniture, such as a lounge chair to screen against the elements by pivoting between an expanded position for screening, and a retracted position for stowing. A plurality of support members form the structural support of the device and carry a canopy. A strut and an adjacently attached disc extend from the terminal ends of each support member. A cog wheel attaches to the discs for regulating movement of the support members, and includes a central axle and peripheral rods that extend from one side of the cog wheel. The central axle passes through a central aperture. Each peripheral rod passes through a corresponding peripheral aperture in the discs. A spring biases the cog wheel into engagement with the discs to restrain the support members. A release member presses against the spring to release the support members for movement between positions.

Some embodiments are directed to retrofitting apparatus for use with a chair, the chair including a seat portion, a back portion that extends substantially perpendicular to the seat portion, and at least one elongated connector that connects the seat portion and the back portion. The retrofitting apparatus includes a removable coupling structure connectable to the at least one elongated connector of the chair, the removable coupling structure including at least one connecting member configured to extend around a perimeter of a portion of the at least one elongated connector; and a cover connected to the coupling structure, the cover configured to project from at least a 180 degree radius around at least a portion of the back portion of the chair, thereby extending around sides of a chair occupant so as to provide a physical barrier between the chair occupant and those disposed adjacent thereto.

An adjustable height, covered, foldable, configurable modifiable seat witha seat frame (comprising a bottom frame, a back frame, and an upper frame) and at least one frame opening defined by the contours of at least a portion of the seat frame. A bleacher hook is disposed on the seat frame. Lower hinges connect the bottom frame to the back frame and upper hinges connect the back frame to the upper frame.
