An electronic furniture assembly of the present invention comprises: (i) a furniture assembly comprising: (A) a base (e.g., a seat portion), (B) at least one transverse member (e.g., a side, armrest or backrest), and (C) a coupler for selectively coupling the base to the transverse member; (ii) an electrical hub for providing electrical power to the speakers, the hub configured to selectively reside within the furniture assembly; and (iii) a speaker system mounted within one or more portions of the furniture assembly. The speaker system comprises one or more speakers mounted within the base and transverse member, hiding the speakers therein, and saving space within a home or office, using the same footprint for both furniture and speakers, providing a high fidelity surround sound system.

Disclosed are methods and systems for monitoring and correcting sitting posture of a user and for discouraging sedentary behavior. The system comprises a processor, a portable seat cover with embedded pressure sensors and an angle sensor, a notification device, and a non-transitory storage medium for storing program code. The program code, when executed by the processor, causes the processor to initiate an idleness timer to count how long the user has been sitting, monitor the user's sitting posture by receiving real-time sensor measurements; identify a sitting posture by applying a posture identification rule, generate a posture correction notification through the notification device if the identified sitting posture is not ergonomically correct, determine whether a sedentary threshold has been reached and generate a stand notification if the sedentary threshold has been reached. Embodiments of the present invention help improve sitting posture and reduce sedentary behavior to minimize associated adverse health effects.

A rest component (14), (16) for an article of furniture (10) includes a body member (32) defining a plurality of surfaces (34). A cover member (36) is carried by at least one surface (34) of the body member (32) to define a pocket (38) associated with the at least one surface (34), the pocket (38) defining a mouth to enable a user to gain access to an interior of the pocket (38). At least one passage (24) is defined by at least one of the body member (32) and the cover member (36) and opening out into the pocket (38). The passage (24) is configured to accommodate an elongate element which extends through the passage to exit from an operatively bottom region of the body member.

An article of furniture (10) includes a platform (12). A seat base (14) is mounted to the platform (12) to leave at least a part (16) of the platform (12) not covered by the seat base (14). At least one rest (20) is displaceably mounted relative to the platform (12) to enable access to be gained at least to that part (16) of the platform (12) not covered by the seat base (14). The distal end of the apparatus includes a removable headrest and is configured for attachment to a number of items. There is disclosed a portably suspended retractable shelf for storing furniture-side items that includes a horizontal platform having an inner portion and an outer portion. In various embodiments, the inner portion is adapted to be slidably captured between an upper cushion and a lower supporting structure. At least one of a projector insert rotationally adjustable to a plurality of orientations and the following upward-facing compartments is disposed on the outer portion of the horizontal platform and is accessible to a user on the furniture: a collapsible basin, a hanging flexible pocket, and a foldable box. A cutout hole is configured to hold the projector insert or the compartments in a suspended configuration through the shelf. A downward-facing sliding drawer compartment is mounted and/or supported underneath the outer portion of the shelf. A storage container extends from a leading surface of the portable suspended retractable shelf. Other embodiments are also disclosed.
