A lumbar traction device for treating a lower back of a user includes a shell that is coupled to and extends from a rear edge of a panel. The shell and the panel are configured to position on a seat and in abutment a backrest of a chair, respectively. A coupling means that extends through a front of the shell is coupled to a plate positioned in the shell. The coupling means is configured to couple to a torso of the user to couple the user to the plate. An actuator, which is positioned in the shell and operationally coupled to the plate, is positioned to selectively raise the plate relative to the seat of the chair. The coupling means is configured to transmit an upward force from the actuator to the torso of the user to place a lumbar region of a spine of the user in traction.

Radiant furniture for sitting includes a radiant seating panel with a bottom cushion overlying the radiant seating panel that provides a heated seating surface for the radiant furniture. A back cushion or a portion of a back cushion can be moved from a first position for sitting to a second position overlying the bottom cushion. A controller senses the temperature of the radiant seating panel and the ambient temperature, then applies power to one or more heating elements in the furniture according to programmed temperature thresholds to provide comfortable radiant heat from the furniture.

A seating unit includes a seat back having a front side and a back side, and a seat bottom having a top side and an underside. A first heating element of the seating unit, attached to the back side of the seat back, can be configured to deliver first heating through the seat back to a user while seated in the seating unit when electrically powered. A second heating element of the seating unit, attached to the underside of the seat bottom, can be configured to deliver second heating through the seat bottom to the user while seated in the seating unit when electrically powered. The seating unit can further include circuitry configured to facilitate delivery of power to the first heating element and the second heating element.

In a first mode, an air source is connected to an airway formed within the seat to create an airflow. The airflow from the air source creates a first temperature differential to cool the seat. In a second mode, an external or internal heat source provides heat to a top surface of the seat, creating a second temperature differential to heat the seat. The first and second temperature differential are distributed across the top surface of the seat. The seat is hinged to be movable about the hinge between an open and a closed position.

A seat heater according to the present invention includes: a heater that is provided between a seat cushioning material and a seat trim cover and includes a heating wire laid on a base material; a temperature detection unit provided in the vicinity of the heating wire of the heater; and a temperature control unit configured to control a temperature of the heater so that it approaches a target temperature, in which the temperature control unit calculates an estimated environment temperature, which is an estimated value of a temperature around the temperature detection unit, based on a rate of increase of a temperature indicating an amount of change of the temperature detected by the temperature detection unit in a period after an elapse of a predetermined time from a start of heating the heater, and corrects the target temperature so that it becomes lower as the estimated environmental temperature becomes lower.
