Detecting structural and stratigraphic information from seismic data
The present disclosure relates to a method of processing seismic signals comprising: receiving a set of seismic signals, applying a wavelet transformation to the set of signals and generating transformed signals across a plurality of scales. Then for each scale determining coherence information indicative of the transformed signals and generating a comparison matrix comparing the transformed signals, then outputting seismic attribute information based on combined coherence information.
System and method for spatially imaging and characterizing properties of rock formations using specular and non-specular beamforming
A method for imaging non-specular seismic events as well as correlating non-specular events with physically measurable quantites in a volume of Earth's subsurface. Includes entering as input to a computer signals detected by a plurality of seismic sensors disposed above and/or within the volume in response to actuation of at least one seismic energy source above and/or within the volume. Parameter analysis is performed to populate the initial model with point-wise, best-fit wavefront travel-time approximations. Imaging is performed to obtain undifferentiated specular and non-specular representations of the volume. Specular boundaries are mapped using the imaged volume and using the boundaries to form a model of specular components of the volume. Beamforming is used to characterize seismic attributes associated with specular and non-specular reflections as separate and differentiated data sets.
Methods of evaluating drilling performance, methods of improving drilling performance, and related systems for drilling using such methods
A method for evaluating or improving performance of a drilling operation includes, during the drilling operation, receiving a performance parameter of a component of a drilling system measured by a sensor of the drilling system. The measured performance parameter is compared to a target performance parameter of the component of the drilling system. The target performance parameter includes a performance parameter of a prior drilling operation measured under substantially similar drilling conditions and measured at at least one of substantially a same drilling depth, substantially a same depth percent, and substantially a same drilling time. A performance attribute value is determined by calculating a normalized, weighted average difference between the measured performance parameter and the target performance parameter.
SEISMIC DENOISING BY WEIGHTED MULTIPLANAR RECONSTRUCTION
A system and method for forming a denoised seismic image of a subterranean region of interest is provided. The method includes obtaining an observed seismic dataset for a subterranean region of interest and forming a plurality of common midpoint gathers having a plurality of traces, each trace having an ordinate series of sample values, a common-midpoint location and a unique value of a secondary sorting parameter. The method further includes, for each of the plurality of common midpoint gathers, selecting a set of spatially adjacent common midpoint gathers using a spatial windowing operator and determining a weighted midpoint gather based on the common midpoint gather and the set of spatially adjacent common midpoint gathers. The method still further includes forming a denoised seismic dataset by combining the weighted midpoint gathers using an inverse spatial windowing operator and forming the denoised seismic image based on the denoised seismic dataset.

Systems and methods for geochemical sampling grid locations on a seafloor. At least one of the methods includes generating, using received seismic data, an image representing an interpretation of a seafloor horizon surface; extracting, from the image and based on the seismic data, one or more discontinuity attributes of the seafloor horizon surface; extracting, from the image and based on the seismic data, one or more amplitude attributes of a window extending below the seafloor horizon surface; combining the one or more discontinuity attributes and the one or more amplitude attributes; and selecting, using the image and based at least partly on the combining, one or more locations of the seafloor horizon surface for sampling.
STIMULATED ROCK VOLUME ANALYSIS

System and method for analyzing reservoir changes during production
There is disclosed a system and method for analyzing geological features of a reservoir, such as a subterranean hydrocarbon reservoir undergoing changes during different stages of its production, by utilizing an artificial neural network to learn from hydrocarbon reservoir production project. In an aspect, there is provide a system and method for utilizing data collected from 4D seismic studies in order to train an artificial neural network to recognize how physical properties of a hydrocarbon reservoir change over time, as the hydrocarbon reservoir is produced. In an embodiment, the system and method are adapted to generate and obtain a plurality of image slices or image planes derived from a 3D seismic baseline and at least one monitor acquired over the course production of the hydrocarbon reservoir. Corresponding 2D image slices derived from the 3D seismic baseline and a subsequent monitor are correlated and matched and are then used to train an artificial neural network to create a predictive model of how the reservoir may change over time.
Identifying geologic features in a subterranean formation using seismic diffraction imaging
A system for seismic imaging of a subterranean geological formation uses a two-way imaging condition. A seismic signal is emitted into a subterranean formation and recorded at receiver(s). Source and receiver wavefields are decomposed into respective right-down/left-up and left-down/right-up propagating waves. The right-down/left-up and left-down/right-up direction can be defined along the direction emitted from the source or receiver to corresponding direction in two dimensional (2D) case. An imaging condition for generating both a positive-dip structure image and a negative-dip structure image is the inner product of the wavefields. Applying the sample-by-sample multiplication imaging condition to the opposite dip images, the diffraction energy is retained while the reflection energy is significantly attenuated. The diffraction image can be used to detect faults and fractures in subsurface regions.
