A furniture system with a reclining assembly including a modular furniture assembly and a reclining assembly. A passageway in the reclining assembly allows coupling to a slit in the modular furniture assembly with a coupler. The reclining assembly includes a housing and a footrest assembly that moves with respect to the housing. An additional base can be coupled to the front end of the footrest assembly, with one or more (e.g., two) sled rails mounted on an underside of the additional base, such that the additional base slides on the sled rails as the footrest assembly moves from the compressed non-reclined position to the extended position.

A convertible furniture piece is disclosed, having a bed configuration, desk configuration, and couch configuration. The furniture includes an outer frame that houses a bed frame and desk, along with the mechanism for raising and lowering the bed frame and desk. The outer frame, bed frame, and desk are interconnected such that the bed frame and desk transition together between a bed configuration, where the desk sits directly below the bed frame, and desk configuration, where the bed frame is stored vertically, while keeping the desk level with the floor. The furniture may be converted to a couch by repositioning a foldable mattress topper as a backrest against the outer frame while the bed frame is horizontal. The furniture may further comprise a bed frame extension, allowing the foldable mattress topper to be repositioned as a second mattress alongside a first mattress.

A convertible furniture piece is disclosed, having a bed configuration, desk configuration, and couch configuration. The furniture includes an outer frame that houses a bed frame and desk, along with the mechanism for raising and lowering the bed frame and desk. The outer frame, bed frame, and desk are interconnected such that the bed frame and desk transition together between a bed configuration, where the desk sits directly below the bed frame, and desk configuration, where the bed frame is stored vertically, while keeping the desk level with the floor. A sofa that transitions between a sitting position and a sleeping position. The sofa includes a frame with a bracket and multiple arms and support bases that allow the frame to move from the sitting position and the sleeping position, and the reverse, by allowing the multiple arms to rotate and support bases to rotate about the bracket at attachment points where the bracket and arms are connected by fasteners. In some embodiments, a back support portion of the sofa is hingedly moveable into first and second positions to optionally reduce the vertical height of the back support to allow easier transport (i.e., in boxes and shipping containers) and movement (i.e., through small doorways and spaces) of the sofa, as described herein. In some embodiments the sofa has a space or notch underneath that is configured to be fastened or otherwise affixed to a platform, such as a bump out in a recreational vehicle, wherein the notch is configured to provide the sofa with a lower profile.

A cushion, mattress or mattress section for a convertible furniture article defines a plurality of apertures, such as slits or slots or recesses, extending into or through the cushion or mattress section that are cut in a direction at an angle to the first length of the mattress section. The cushion or mattress section expands from its first length to a second length that is longer than the first length upon applying a stretching force to the cushion or mattress section and thereby positioning the mattress section into the open or sleeping configuration. Expansion is due to resilience of the material forming the mattress or mattress section in combination with opening of the apertures. The sleeping surface of the mattress or mattress section may remain substantially planar in both the open (sleeping) position and closed (seating) position.

When the furniture is in the bed position, a top surface of the first cushion is substantially coplanar with a top surface of the second cushion and the partition is spaced from the second platform by a first distance. In the seat position of the furniture, the distance between the partition and the second platform is less than the first distance.

Furniture that is convertible between a seat position and a bed position is described. The furniture includes a first bed section with a first platform supporting a first cushion, and a second bed section with a second platform, a second cushion, and a partition disposed between the second platform and the second cushion. The first platform is configured to pivot relative to the second platform. The first cushion is thicker than the second cushion. When the furniture is in the bed position, a top surface of the first cushion is substantially coplanar with a top surface of the second cushion and the partition is spaced from the second platform by a first distance. In the seat position of the furniture, the distance between the partition and the second platform is less than the first distance.

A sofa that transitions between a sitting position and a sleeping position includes a frame with a bracket and multiple arms and support bases that allow the frame to move from the sitting position and the sleeping position, and the reverse, by allowing the multiple arms to rotate and support bases to rotate about the bracket at attachment points where the bracket and arms are connected by fasteners. A back support portion of the sofa may be hingedly moveable into first and second positions to reduce the vertical height of the back support to allow easier transport and movement of the sofa. The sofa may have a space or notch underneath that is configured to be fastened or otherwise affixed to a platform, such as a bump out in a recreational vehicle, to provide the sofa with a lower profile.

A sofa bed with a seat back assembly, seat, side frame assembly and lock and release member. The side frame assembly includes a side frame and a link assembly connected to the side frame. The link assembly moves between a first position and a second position to allow for conversion of the sofa bed between a sofa position and a bed position. The lock and release mechanism locks the link assembly in place.
