ILLUMINATION UNIT AND ENDOSCOPE
An illumination unit includes a light guide and a light converter. Wettability which a distal end side surface of the light guide has for an enclosing member of the light converter is lower than wettability which a distal end face has for the enclosing member.
SINGLE FIBER ILLUMINATED LASER PROBE WITH HIGH-ANGLE ILLUMINATION OUTPUT
The present disclosure relates to a fiber and a laser probe assembly with a probe tip that houses the fiber. In certain aspects, the fiber includes a core, an outer cladding surrounding the core, and an end face at a proximal and/or distal end of the fiber. The core is configured to transmit a laser light beam while the core and the outer cladding are both configured to transmit an illumination light. In certain aspects, a surface area of the end face corresponding to a cross-section of at least the outer cladding is treated with a roughening or polishing process to modulate an illumination light output angle of the fiber. Using a fiber that is configured to transmit a laser light beam as well as a wide-angle illumination light allows for a more compact fiber and probe tip, allowing for medical procedures that require a narrower probe.
End cap holder
One or more embodiments of the disclosure relates to an end cap holder for fixing an end cap to aid in alignment with an optical fiber prior to splicing by a splicing device. The use of the end cap holder may provide a method to fix an end cap holder having a different diameter from an optical fiber that the splicing device may be set up or adjusted for.
Strain relieved adapter for a jacketed cable and boot
An adapter for a fiber optic connector has provides strain relief for a jacketed cable connected to the adapter and the connector. The adapter preferably has two portions that act together to engage the jacketed cable and a boot that applies pressure to the adapter to secure the adapter. The two portions of the adapter may also be rotatably connected to one another. The boot has a projection that cooperates with an optical component to seal the adapter and optical component from outside particulates.
Pump and signal combiner for high numerical aperture use
As kilowatt class fiber laser and amplifier systems become more in demand, there are ongoing efforts to improve optical fiber laser and amplifier designs to maximize efficiency and further increase the capacity of these high-energy optical fiber lasers and amplifiers. The present disclosure provides a fiber laser or amplifier system configured to efficiently and conveniently generate and couple high numerical aperture and high-energy pump light into a fiber laser or amplifier system.
FIBER OPTIC TAPERED COUPLER
Fiber optic tapered coupler and methods of manufacturing same. One method of manufacturing a fiber optic tapered coupler arrangement includes providing an output fiber having a first end and a second end opposite the first end. The method also includes applying heat to the first end of the output fiber, wherein the first end expands forming a taper at the first end of the output fiber. The method also includes splicing the tapered first end of the output fiber to a first end of an input fiber, wherein a non-tapered portion of the output fiber has a first diameter and the input fiber has a second diameter different from the first diameter.
COUNTER PUMPING A LARGE MODE AREA FIBER LASER
A fiber support assembly includes: a first glass tube, wherein the first glass tube is at tached to a microlens or lenslet of a microlens or lenslet array; a second glass tube at least partially disposed within the first glass tube; and a gain fiber disposed within the second glass tube, wherein the gain fiber has a first tapered end cap, and wherein the gain fiber with the first tapered end cap is aligned to the microlens or lenslet attached to the first glass tube. The fiber support assembly may further include: a pump fiber disposed within the second glass tube, wherein the pump fiber has a second tapered end cap; and a reflector configured to receive counter-pumping light from the pump fiber and direct the counter-pumping light to the first tapered end cap of the gain fiber.
Metal coated spike array
An article of manufacture includes a support structure including a cladding material and defining therein a plurality of substantially parallel cores. The article also includes a plurality of conically-shaped spikes protruding from a first side of the support structure. Each respective conically-shaped spike of the plurality of conically-shaped spikes includes a core material (i) extending through a corresponding core of the plurality of substantially parallel cores and (ii) comprising an axial protrusion that protrudes axially from the cladding material at the first side of the support structure. The axial protrusion of the core material is tapered to form the respective conically-shaped spike. The article also includes a refractory metal layer coating at least a portion of each respective conically-shaped spike and one or more electrodes connected to the refractory metal layer and configured to apply a voltage to the refractory metal layer.
Optical modulator and optical transmission device using same
To provide a highly-reliable low-cost small optical modulator in which temperature drift is suppressed and an optical transmission device using the same. An optical modulator including an optical waveguide substrate 1 on which an optical waveguide is formed, a signal electrode which is provided on the optical waveguide substrate and applies an electric field to the optical waveguide, a termination substrate 3 provided with a termination resistor that terminates the signal electrode, and a housing 6 in which the optical waveguide substrate and the termination substrate are mounted, in which, in order to suppress conduction of heat generated from the termination resistor to the optical waveguide substrate through the housing, a groove 8 is formed in the housing 6 between the termination substrate 3 and the optical waveguide substrate 1.
HIGH-RADIANCE WAVELENGTH-AGILE INCOHERENT LIGHT-SOURCE
A source of high-radiance broad-band incoherent light includes an optical waveguide, having a core made of phosphor granules embedded in a matrix of glass and a cladding. The core having a relatively high refractive index and the cladding having a relatively low refractive index. The phosphor granules and the glass matrix having about the same refractive index. Radiation from one or more diode-lasers is injected into one end of the waveguide to energize the phosphor granules, producing broad-band incoherent light, which is confined and guided to an opposite end of the waveguide as output light.
