The guide unit is disposed in the mount in a first direction. The lens groups are disposed in the mount and include at least one movable lens group which can be moved along the guide unit. The driving device is configured for driving the movable lens group. The driving device includes magnets and coils. The magnets are fixed to one of the movable lens group and the mount, while the coils are fixed to the other of the movable lens group and the mount. The magnets and/or the coils are arranged in the first direction.

The zoom lens includes a plurality of lens groups including at least two movable lens groups, which move by changing spacings between the groups adjacent to each other in a direction of an optical axis during zooming, at a position closer to the reduction side than the intermediate image. Among the plurality of lens groups, a final lens group closest to the reduction side has a positive refractive power, and remains stationary with respect to the reduction side imaging plane during zooming. The zoom lens satisfies predetermined conditional expressions (1) and (2) about the focal lengths of the movable lens groups.

At least two zoom lenses in the first optical system shift along an optical axis between a first and a second position to change magnification. The method includes shifting at least one lens in the first optical system such that a distance at which the object is focused when the zoom lenses are shifted to the first position is substantially equal to a distance at which the object is focused when the zoom lenses are shifted to the second position; and then shifting at least one lens in the second optical system along the optical axis such that the object is focused when the zoom lenses are shifted to the first position or the second position.
