Device and method for borescope inspection of jet engines

A device enables borescope inspection of turbine blades of a high-pressure turbine stage of a jet engine. The device has a bend-free guide pipe for introducing a flexible borescope. The device also has: a guide for the guide pipe, the guide being configured to provide clear and reproducible positioning and orientation of the guide pipe; and a securing device configured to releasably secure the guide to an outer side of the jet engine. The securing device is configured to adjust the guide to a predetermined orientation with respect to the outer side of the jet engine. The guide pipe is rigid and shaped in such a manner that an end of the guide pipe that is introduced into the jet engine when the guide is orientated correctly is orientable so as to be directed between two predetermined guide blades.

Systems and methods for treating hearing loss

Systems and methods can be employed for trans-tympanic membrane access to the middle ear for delivery of a therapeutic agent, for example, to the round window niche adjacent to the cochlea under direct visualization. The systems and methods can also be used to improve accessibility and visualization for various otological surgical procedures, such as, but not limited to, cholesteatoma removal, tympanic membrane repair and ossicular chain repair.

Optical imaging or spectroscopy systems and methods

Optical imaging or spectroscopy described can use laminar optical tomography (LOT), diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS), or the like. An incident beam is scanned across a target. An orthogonal or oblique optical response can be obtained, such as concurrently at different distances from the incident beam. The optical response from multiple incident wavelengths can be concurrently obtained by dispersing the response wavelengths in a direction orthogonal to the response distances from the incident beam. Temporal correlation can be measured, from which flow and other parameters can be computed. An optical conduit can enable endoscopic or laparoscopic imaging or spectroscopy of internal target locations. An articulating arm can communicate the light for performing the LOT, DCS, or the like. The imaging can find use for skin cancer diagnosis, such as distinguishing lentigo maligna (LM) from lentigo maligna melanoma (LMM).

Control device for a surgical instrument

A movement transfer mechanism for a surgical scoping device, wherein a rotational proximal input force is transformed into a longitudinal force that is conveyed down the length of an instrument channel of the scoping device, where it is transformed again into an operational movement of a distal instrument. The operational movement can be rotational movement, but may be any movement that changes the orientation or configuration of the distal instrument. By conveying a linear force along the instrument channel rather than a twisting force, the problems of slipping and discontinuous operation of the distal instrument due to friction between the instrument and the instrument channel can be reduced or eliminated.
