The disclosed subject matter relates to a method of manufacturing a light projector module, comprising the steps of: providing a base plate, a light source on the base plate, and a micro-electro-mechanical-system (MEMS) scanning assembly, wherein the base plate has, between the light source and the MEMS scanning assembly, a mounting surface accessible at one side of the base plate; positioning a set of one or more lenses on the mounting surface and adjusting the position of the one or more lenses of the set while the light source is emitting and at least one light beam projected by the light projector module is monitored in a display area; and mounting the one or more lenses of the set in the adjusted position fixedly on the base plate.

Examples are disclosed that relate to a compact optical systems comprising SLMs. One example provides a projection system comprising an illumination stage including a light emitting diode (LED) array. The LED array comprises a plurality of red LEDs, a plurality of green LEDs, and a plurality of blue LEDs. The illumination stage further comprises an illumination stage optical system configured to control an angular extent of light emitted by the LED array and homogenize the light emitted by the LED array. The projection system further comprises an image forming stage configured to form an image from light output by the illumination stage, the image forming stage comprising a spatial light modulator (SLM) configured to spatially modulate the light output by the illumination stage to form an image, and one or more projection optics configured to project the image formed by the spatial light modulator.

A display device includes a cover, a display, and a polarization reflection layer. The cover transmits visible light. The display displays an image. The polarization reflection layer is disposed between the cover and the display and on a surface of the display. Embodiments herein describe a focal polarization displacer with a birefringent crystal disposed within the focal region of a lens. The birefringent crystal separates optical signals into at least two separate signals based on having different polarization states and an optical axis of the birefringent crystal is set so that focal points of the two separate signals are at an output surface of the polarization displacer where the two separate signals are output from the polarization displacer. This output surface can be a surface of the birefringent crystal or a surface of additional layer coupled to the crystal such as a polarization rotator or dielectric layer.

A display device includes a transparent light guiding layer having a bottom face on which a light diffusing region is formed as a design, a retroreflective layer, a polarizing beam that allows light having a first polarization direction to pass therethrough, and an emission unit configured to emit into the light guiding layer the light having the first polarization direction, or light having a different second polarization direction. When light having the first polarization direction is emitted, light reflected by the light diffusing region passes through the polarizing beam splitter such that the design is viewable. When light having the second polarization direction is emitted, light reflected by the retroreflective layer passes through the polarizing beam splitter such that an aerial image of the design is viewable.

The present disclosure provides a display device, the display device includes an optical imaging apparatus including an image source element, a beam splitting element, and a reflective element configured to be aligned on light path; and an absorbing element, a shape of the absorbing element and an arrangement position of the absorbing element in the display device cause the absorbing element to absorb non-imaging light in a scene to be displayed, and not block imaging light for generating a display image of the scene to be displayed. In the display device, the absorbing element absorbs the non-imaging light in the scene to be displayed and reduces the non-imaging light in the display device, in turn reduces influence of the non-imaging light on the scene to be displayed and improves display quality of the display image of the scene to be displayed.

The illumination arrangement further comprises at least one of a beam expanding element for expanding said broadband illumination beam in at least one direction, located between an input of the illumination arrangement and the spatial light modulator; and a lens array, each lens of which for directing a respective wavelength band of the broadband illumination beam subsequent to being dispersed onto a respective region of the spatial light modulator.
