An aerosol generating device includes: a case into which a cigarette is to be inserted; a cap detachably coupled to a top portion of the case; a cover configured to slide on a top surface of the cap so as to open or close a cigarette insertion hole; a first sensor configured to sense whether the cigarette insertion hole is open or closed; and a controller configured to determine whether the cigarette insertion hole is open or closed based on a signal sensed by the first sensor and set an operational mode of the aerosol generating device as an ON mode or an OFF mode based on a result of the determining.

Disclosed herein is an aerosol-generating device for generating aerosol from an aerosol-generating material. The aerosol-generating device comprises: a housing; and a heating assembly arranged in the housing for receiving aerosol-generating material. The heating assembly is configured to heat aerosol-generating material received in the heating assembly. At least a portion of the housing has a soft touch coating.

The housing body is configured to have a shape complementary to the vaping device for snugly accommodating the vaping device therein. The housing body can include an outer aesthetic layer and an inner cushion layer. An electrically operated aerosol-generating system is provided, including an aerosol-generating device and a case configured to receive the aerosol-generating device. The case includes a housing having an opening and a device holder pivotally coupled to the housing and pivotable relative to the housing between an open position and a closed position. The device holder includes an external wall and one or more internal walls arranged to releasably hold the aerosol-generating device. The device holder has a first end and a second end, opposite the first end, and the device holder is pivotally coupled to the housing at or around the first end.
