DYNAMIC THREE-DIMENSIONAL SURFACE SKETCHING
A method and system for three-dimensional (3D) surface sketching are provided. A 3D scanner scans an outer surface of a physical object and outputs data representative of the outer surface. A processor generates, based on the received data, a 3D model of the object and outputs a 3D rendering of the object. A display displays the 3D rendering of the object. An input device physically traces over a portion of the outer surface of the object and a tracking device tracks a positioning of the input device as the input device physically traces over the portion of the outer surface of the object. The processor receives data representative of at least one spatial position of the input device, augments the 3D rendering of the object based at least in part on the data and outputs the augmented 3D rendering to the display.

Volumetric 3D Display
A drive system for a projection screen in a swept surface volumetric 3D display is disclosed. The drive system causes the projection screen to reciprocate through an excursion distance at a screen reciprocating frequency relative to a projection system. The drive system includes an actuator arrangement for generating an input reciprocating force substantially at the screen reciprocating frequency through an input excursion distance and a support structure for the projection screen. The support structure includes a resonant mounting arrangement for the projection screen. The resonant mounting arrangement is operably connected to the actuator arrangement and configured to allow the projection screen to reciprocate through the excursion distance. The resonant mounting arrangement is configured to have a resonant frequency substantially equivalent to the screen reciprocating frequency on actuation of the actuator arrangement. A gaming console incorporating a swept surface volumetric 3D display based on the drive system is also disclosed.
Diffraction grating based 3-D display
A three-dimensional display system and methods for forming 3D images are disclosed. In one version, a diffusion screen is formed at a predetermined location.sub.1 of a set of predetermined locations 1-n within an image chamber. The diffusion screen is illuminated with visible light indicative of a cross-sectional image.sub.1 of a set of a plurality of cross-sectional images 1-N of a three-dimensional image at the predetermined location.sub.1 within the image chamber. The diffusion screen is erased and the method is repeated for cross-sectional images 2-N and predetermined locations 2-n of the three-dimensional image at a scan rate sufficient to produce a representation of the three-dimensional image in the image chamber.
