Electrowetting display device with stable display states
An electrowetting display device comprising a first support plate including: a surface; and a first electrode, a second support plate; and a protrusion having a protrusion surface. The protrusion is formed as part of at least one of the first or second support plates. The protrusion has an elongate shape extending from one to the other of the first or second support plates. The device further comprises a first fluid adjoining at least one of the protrusion surface or the surface of the first support plate; a second fluid immiscible with the first fluid; a second electrode in electrical contact with the second fluid; and a third electrode.
Dynamic security device
A security device that exhibits at least one dynamic response upon change of orientation of the security device with respect to gravity, wherein the security device includes a hollow capsule completely filled with a liquid and one or more microscopic elements. In addition, the dynamic response continues after cessation of the change of orientation with respect to gravity. The dynamic response includes a transition of the one or more microscopic elements from substantial mechanical equilibrium to non-equilibrium upon action of the change of orientation with respect to gravity and back to substantial mechanical equilibrium after cessation of the change of orientation with respect to gravity. During the dynamic response, the one or more microscopic elements undergo at least one of a rotational motion and a translational motion relative to the liquid.
MEMS ACTUATOR, SYSTEM HAVING A PLURALITY OF MEMS ACTUATORS, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING A MEMS ACTUATOR
Embodiments of the present invention provide an MEMS actuator with a substrate, at least one post attached to the substrate and a deflectable actuator body that is connected to the at least one post via at least one spring, wherein, during electrostatic, electromagnetic or magnetic force application, the actuator body takes a second position starting from a first position by a tilt-free translational movement, wherein the first position and the second position are different, and wherein in a top view of the MEMS actuator the actuator body is arranged outside an area spanned by the at least one post.
OPTICAL SENSOR DEVICE
An optical sensing system is presented for monitoring one or more parameters or conditions of an object. The optical sensing system comprises: an elongated light guide configured for placing in proximity of the object, the light guide defining a cavity for light propagation therethrough along at least one light propagation path, and having a light input port and at least one light output port; and a detector system for receiving light propagating from the at least one light output port, the detector system being configured and operable for monitoring a signal modulated by light interaction with the object and being indicative of the at least one parameter/condition of the object.
Transparent phase change actuator
A transparent optical element may include a layer of an electroactive ceramic disposed between transparent electrodes, such that the electrodes are each oriented perpendicular to a non-polar direction of the ceramic layer. Optical properties of the optical element, including transmissivity, haze, and clarity may be improved by the application of a voltage to the electroactive ceramic, and an associated phase transformation.
Pressure-sensitive writing media comprising electrophoretic materials
Systems and methods are disclosed for pressure-sensitive, electrophoretic displays, which may optionally include haptic feedback. A display may comprise a first conductive layer having a pressure-sensitive conductivity and an electrophoretic layer positioned adjacent to the first conductive layer, wherein the electrophoretic layer is in electrical communication with the first conductive layer and is configured to locally change state based on a pressure applied to the first conductive layer. Local and global writing and erasing of the display can also be achieved.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MANIPULATING LIGHT FROM AMBIENT LIGHT SOURCES
An optical device includes variable optical material that alters at least one of: incident ambient light, spectral content of incident ambient light or direction of incident ambient light through the optical device in response to a stimulus provided by the device. The device can sense intensity and/or spectral characteristics of ambient light and provide appropriate stimulus to various portions of the optical device to activate the variable optical material and alter at least one of: incident ambient light, spectral content of incident ambient light or direction of incident ambient light.
INFANT CARE DEVICE INCLUDING PREDICTIVE FAILURE SIDE PANELS
An infant care device that can include a failure indicating feature in one or more of the side panels to discourage improper use of the side panels to move the infant care device. When a side panels is used to move the infant care device and a force greater than a pre-determined maximum is applied to the side panel, the failure indicting feature indicates such improper use. The failure indicating feature is designed to provide an indication at a level of force that is less than the level of force that would damage the hinge and latch assembly holding the side panel. The failure indicating feature can provide a physical indication or a visual indication when a force greater than a predetermined maximum is applied to the side panel.
LASER SYSTEM FOR SOURCE MATERIAL CONDITIONING IN AN EUV LIGHT SOURCE
Disclosed is an apparatus and a method in which multiple, e.g., two or more pulses from a single laser source are applied to source material prior to application of a main ionizing pulse in which the multiple pulses are generated by a common laser source. The first pulse is directed towards the source material when the source material is at a first position and the second pulse is directed towards the source material when the source material is at a second position.
PIEZO-ELECTROPHORETIC FILM INCLUDING PATTERNED PIEZO POLARITIES FOR CREATING IMAGES VIA ELECTROPHORETIC MEDIA
Low-profile piezo-electrophoretic films and display films including low profile piezo-electrophoretic films. In some embodiments, the piezoelectric material of the piezo-electrophoretic films can be patterned with high-voltage electric fields after fabrication of the piezo-electrophoretic films. Such films are useful as security markers, authentication films, or sensors. The films are generally flexible. Some films are less than 100 μm in thickness. Displays formed from the films do not require an external power source.
