An optical component includes an optical device comprising a bonding face and an optically polished end face, and a metal film formed on the bonding face of the optical device and for bonding the optical device onto a substrate. The metal film includes a main covering portion covering a region except an end part of the bonding face on the side of the end face and an end part-covering portion covering the bonding face in the end part. A non-covered part, which is not covered by the metal film, is provided between the main covering portion and end part-covering portion.

The OP module includes an optical parametric oscillator that is configured to generate the idler signal at approximately 0.5 times the fundamental frequency. The idler light and fifth harmonic light are then mixed by a frequency mixing module to generate the laser output light having an output frequency equal to approximately 5.5 times the fundamental frequency.

Thus, terahertz wave having a high output power and including a plurality of wavelengths can be obtained, and the wavelength selection means easily obtains a required terahertz wave having the specific wavelength.

An electronic light synthesizer electronically synthesizes supercontinuum light, the electronic light synthesizer and includes: a microwave modulator that: receives a continuous wave light including an optical frequency; modulates the continuous wave light at a microwave repetition frequency; and produces a frequency comb including the optical frequency and modulated at the microwave repetition frequency; a self-phase modulator in optical communication with the microwave modulator and that: receives the frequency comb from the microwave modulator; spectrally broadens an optical wavelength range of the frequency comb; and produces broadened light including the optical frequency and modulated at the microwave repetition frequency; an optical filter in optical communication with the self-phase modulator and that: receives the broadened light from the self-phase modulator; and optically filters electronic noise in the broadened light; and a supercontinuum generator in optical communication with the optical filter and that: receives the broadened light from the optical filter; spectrally broadens the optical wavelength range of the broadened light; and produces supercontinuum light including the optical frequency and modulated at the microwave repetition frequency.

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR GENERATING ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION

An apparatus for generating electromagnetic radiation includes a pump laser so adapted that in operation of the apparatus it generates electromagnetic continuous-wave pump radiation; an optical parametric oscillator which is arranged in the beam path of the pump radiation and has a non-linear optical crystal, and is so adapted that in operation of the apparatus it generates signal and idler radiation from the pump radiation, and a non-linear optical device having a non-linear optical crystal, being arranged at least in a beam path of the signal radiation or idler radiation, and being so adapted that in operation of the apparatus it generates from the signal or idler radiation electromagnetic radiation at a frequency greater than a frequency of the signal or idler radiation. The non-linear optical crystal being heated in a furnace so that the crystal has a temperature gradient in the beam direction of the signal or idler radiation.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR GENERATING THZ RADIATION

A method of generating THz radiation includes the steps of generating optical input radiation with an input radiation source device (10), irradiating a first conversion crystal device (30) with the optical input radiation, wherein the first conversion crystal device (30) is arranged in a single pass configuration, and generating the THz radiation having a THz frequency in the first conversion crystal device (30) in response to the optical input radiation by an optical-to-THz-conversion process, wherein a multi-line frequency spectrum is provided by the optical input radiation in the first conversion crystal device (30), and the optical-to-THz-conversion process includes cascaded difference frequency generation using the multi-line frequency spectrum. Optical analog matrix multiplier for optical neural networks

Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed toward techniques and apparatus comprising at least one layer of an ONN that includes an optical matrix multiplier provided in a semiconductor substrate to receive a plurality of optical signal inputs and to linearly transform the plurality of optical signal inputs into a plurality of optical signal outputs. The optical matrix multiplier comprises one or more 2×2 unitary optical matrices optically interconnected to implement a singular value decomposition (SVD) of a matrix, and a nonlinear optical device coupled with the optical matrix multiplier in the semiconductor substrate, to receive the optical signal outputs and to provide an optical output that is generated in a nonlinear manner in response to the optical signal outputs of the optical matrix multiplier reaching saturation or attenuation. Additional embodiments may be described and claimed.

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CAVITY-ENHANCED BROADBAND INTRAPULSE DIFFERENCE FREQUENCY GENERATION

A method of creating difference frequency (DF) laser pulses (1) by difference frequency generation (DFG) comprises the steps of providing ultrashort laser pulses (2) having a spectral bandwidth corresponding to a Fourier limit of below 50 fs and containing first spectral components and second spectral components having larger frequencies than the first spectral components, and driving a DFG process by the ultrashort laser pulses (2) in an optically non-linear crystal (10), wherein the DF laser pulses (1) are generated in the crystal (10) by difference frequencies between the first and second spectral components, resp., said difference frequencies comprising third spectral components being lower in frequency than the first and second spectral components, wherein at least one enhancement cavity (20) with resonator mirrors (Mil to Ml4) spanning a beam path (22) is provided and the crystal (10) is placed in the beam path (22) of the enhancement cavity (20), the ultrashort laser pulses (2) are input coupled and coherently added in the at least one enhancement cavity (20), at least one circulating ultrashort laser pulse (3) is created in the at least one enhancement cavity (20), which drives the DFG process in the crystal (10) for generating the DF laser pulses (1), and the at least one enhancement cavity (20) is adapted for recycling the at least one ultrashort laser pulse (3) passing through the crystal (10). Furthermore, a photonic source (100) for creating DF laser pulses (1) is described, including one or more enhancement cavities.

A beat note generator produces a beat note signal using a portion of the output beam. A control signal generator produces the one or more control signals to set the beat note signal by modulating the intensity of the input beam within the mode locked oscillator. Modulating the intensity comprises using a Mach-Zehnder intensity modulator or using an intensity modulated external laser to affect a gain medium within the mode-locked laser.

Broadband Light Source Device and Method of Creating Broadband Light Pulses

A broadband light source device for creating broadband light pulses includes a hollow-core fiber and a pump laser source device. The hollow-core fiber is configured to create the broadband light pulses by an optical non-linear broadening of pump laser pulses. The hollow-core fiber includes a filling gas, an axial hollow light guiding fiber core configured to support core modes of a guided light field, and an inner fiber structure surrounding the fiber core and configured to support transverse wall modes of the guided light field. The pump laser source device is configured to create and provide the pump laser pulses at an input side of the hollow-core fiber. The transverse wall modes include a fundamental transverse wall mode and second and higher order transverse wall modes.
