Nonlinear optical frequency conversion using metamaterial arrays
A method of nonlinear wavelength generation uses a nonlinear optical medium. An input flux of pump energy is applied to one or more dielectric optical resonators. Each resonator has an optical cavity comprising the nonlinear optical medium. Each resonator has at least one Mie resonance that is excited by the input flux of pump energy. The pump energy causes the generation of converted light containing at least one converted component having a frequency attainable only through a non-linear process.
DETERMINISTIC SINGLE-PHOTON SOURCE BASED ON SPECTRAL SHIFT OF A HERALDED PHOTON
An apparatus for producing a single photon can comprise a modulator that modulates the wavelength of a pump beam based on wavelength of an idler photon of a signal/idler photon pair. A wavelength division multiplexer combines the modulated pump beam and the signal photon in a non-linear element to produce an output photon having a preselected wavelength based on signal photon wavelength and a wavelength of the modulated pump beam.
Nanocomposite high order nonlinear optical-element
A nonlinear nanocomposite optical-element comprising a nanocomposite comprising one or more optically nonlinear (NLO) nanofillers dispersed in a cured organic-matrix. The NLO nanofillers have a high .sup.(3) susceptibility relative to a linear nanofiller. The distribution of the NLO nanofiller has a nanofiller gradient that changes based on optical radiation intensity.
DESPECKLING STABILITY
An apparatus and method that improves the stability of despeckling using stimulated Raman scattering in an optical fiber. Optical modes in the fiber are scrambled by physical movement of the optical fiber, focusing assembly, or laser beam. The improvement in stability may include a reduction in flicker or reduction in long-term drift.
CLOCK GENERATION FOR A PHOTONIC QUANTUM COMPUTER
A system for generating clock signals for a photonic quantum computing system includes a first pump photon source, a first photon-pair source optically coupled to the first pump photon source, and a first photodetector optically coupled to the first photon-pair source. The system also includes a first clock generator electrically coupled to the first photodetector, a second pump photon source, a second photon-pair source optically coupled to the second pump photon source, and a second photodetector optically coupled to the second photon-pair source. The system further includes a second clock generator electrically coupled to the second photodetector and a clock mediator coupled to the first clock generator and the second clock generator.
PHOTONIC QUANTUM MEMORY
A photonic quantum memory is provided. The photonic quantum memory includes entanglement basis conversion module configured to receive a first polarization-entangled photon pair and to produce a second entangled photon pair. The second polarization-entangled photon pair can be a time-bin entangled or a propagation direction-entangled photon pair. The photonic quantum memory further includes a photonic storage configured to receive the second entangled photon pair from the basis conversion module and to store the second entangled photon pair.
Direct entangled triplet-photon sources and methods for their design and fabrication
In one aspect, a device for generating triplet photons is disclosed, which includes a waveguide extending from a proximal end for receiving pump radiation to a distal end through which triplet photons generated via nonlinear interaction of the pump radiation with the waveguide exit the waveguide, where the waveguide is configured such that the triplet photons generated within the waveguide reach its distal end at a rate in a range of about 0.05 triplet photons/second/mW and 0.3 triplet photons/second/mW, e.g., in a range of about 0.1 triplet photons/second/mW to about 0.2 triplet photons/second/mW.
Optical apparatus and method for outputting one or more photons
There is presented an optical apparatus comprising first and second photon pair sources configured to convert at least one pump light photon into a first and second correlated signal and idler photon pairs. In one example, the apparatus is configured to use one of the signal and idler photons from the first correlated photon pair for controlling the conversion of the pump light photon in the second photon pair source. The apparatus may configured such that, at least one of the signal and idler photons from the first correlated photon pair is output from the first photon pair source onto an optical path wherein at least one of the signal and idler photons from the second correlated photon pair is output from the second photon pair source onto the optical path. A method is also provided for outputting one or more photons using the optical apparatus.
SUM FREQUENCY GENERATOR IN THE MICROWAVE DOMAIN FOR QUANTUM COMMUNICATION AND COMPUTATION APPLICATIONS
A technique relates to a circuit for a sum frequency generator. A first resonator is connected to a Josephson ring modulator (JRM), and the first resonator is configured to receive a first photon at a first frequency. A second resonator is connected to the JRM, and the second resonator is configured to have a first harmonic and no second harmonic. The second resonator is configured to receive a second photon at a second frequency, and the first resonator is configured to output an up-converted photon. The up-converted photon has an up-converted frequency that is a sum of the first frequency and the second frequency.
